Olivia

"He's not coming to get me, is he?" I sniffed.
Drew and Jason gravely shook their heads.
"But hey! That means we can have a sleepover!" Jason sung out.
"Do I still have pyjamas here?" I quietly asked, deflating Jason's excitement.
Drew nodded, taking me by the hand to the spare bedroom I usually sleep in. I brushed my teeth, went to the loo, got into my pjs and then slid into bed. Drew was sitting next to me so I could cuddle up with him while Jason sat on the end, reading me a story.
When he'd finished the chapter, Jason shut the book and smiled in my direction.
"What's happening tomorrow?" I wondered out loud.
"Well, I'll zip you home tomorrow morning so you can get into your uniform and then either Hamish or I will take you to school." Drew replied.
"Can you take me?" I burst out.
Drew chuckled but I could see the pity in his eyes.
"Of course, Squeak." He softly said.
Both Drew and Jason proceeded to stand up and kiss me on the top of my head, tucking me in before leaving the room, turning the lights off as they went. When the door was firmly shut, I sighed deeply, wishing that I was in my own bed with my stuffed animals. I usually can't sleep without them, especially Elvis, my elephant. However, it was much better than having to be in the same house as Hamish and his girlfriend.

Hamish's face snapped to the side after the impact from the back of his mother's hand; his younger sister, Olivia, trembling behind his protective body.
He was so focused on his mother that he didn't notice his father stumbling, drunkenly through the dimly lit hall. Callum punched his son from behind with a sharp jab, sending Hamish tumbling forward. Callum gripped his daughter's arm, roughly tugging her from her position in the corner.
"Stop crying!" He shouted in her face, making her cry even more; the tears now escaping with an uncontrollable force.
Hamish couldn't move; Gina's foot was pressed heavily against his neck, fixing him to the floor in despair. He was choking on his screams, pleading with his father to let his tiny, three-year-old sister go. Callum kicked him in the side, forcing a loud crack to resonate off the walls, simultaneously silencing his pleas, replacing them with an agonising howl of pain.
Callum bent down to meet his son's eye-line, not loosening the grip on his crying daughter.
"You want me to let her go do you?" He menacingly gritted out.
Still writing in pain on the floor, Hamish nodded desperately. Before he could try to intervene, Olivia was thrown against the dry wall, creating a large, cracked indentation before she landed in a bundled heap.
Hamish screamed with all his might before receiving a solid punch to the face. He was only eighteen and still living at home, what was he supposed to do? He started crying. Crying out of pain. Crying for his sister. Crying for their lost childhood.
Callum looked at his son in disgust, locking his fingers in Hamish's curls and bringing their faces closer together.
"You're a disgrace, Hamish. A bloody disgrace. You don't cry, you hear me?! You're weak." He breathed heavily. "Now get out of my sight, and take that with you." He said, pointing to Olivia's frail body, lying against the wall. She was awake, watching it all.
