"i was right," keith cried out with his eyes closed, legs wobbling as lance tried to guide him through the slim trail, "i knew it was the weird kids."

lance giggled. "wow, keith kogane can joke!"

"it wasn't a joke i'm afraid." keith struggles out as his shoulder grazes a thorn filled stem. he winces, but the pain is barely a sting.

"relax. i used go out here a lot, nothing to be worried about." lance tries to reassure, bending down to dodge a branch that keith unluckily gets a face of.

"you go here a lot and its still overgrown as shit? the fuck do you do? teleport?" keith snaps. lance glances back silently. "lance?"

he breaks out into a fit of laughs while being able to dodge plants above and below. "you dont seriously believe in that shit, keith-"

"you are lance." keith retorts back quietly.

"i said i used to, but you obviously weren't listening."

"where are we going anyway?" keith asks after a beat of silence.

lance decided to stay quiet on the topic. it was a surprise, it had to be. he loved surprises even if the other party did not.

"great. you always go quiet at the worst times," keith scoffs, "if you butcher me now, i doubt it would make much difference."

lance makes a psh sound with his mouth, slapping keith on the arm playfully.

"you idiot, i'm not a murderer."

"yet you haven't made an otherwise impression..." keith drags.

after a while of more shoving (playfully, keith claims after almost knocking lance over), they get towards the end of the trail, where their destination lies. lance had talked keith's ear off about how wonderful this place was, how he wouldn't want to leave. keith doubted these idiotic thoughts because - well, we were talking about keith, right? he didn't think anything was to die for. except for his hype man (his dog). so as something being said as bizarre as that, keith almost let out a laugh so loud that the trees would laugh along.

they stood on the end of the trail, admiring the view ahead.

"welcome to mi casa, keefy!"

"this is not a home. much less a house." keith scrunches up his nose.

"ah, dont be difficult," lance pats the stubborn boys shoulder before walking off, "you can make anything a home."

keith scrunches up his nose in distaste. he was so obnoxiously happy, and it made keith sick.

oh, but the view made him disagree in the very depths of his mind.

there was a treehouse bigger than the upstairs of shiros townhome, a large creek accompanied by a comfortingly loud waterfall. there was also a gigantic wooden sign that was empty. like, those you'd find on the highway. sometime in the 90's.

"holy..." keith finally breathes out.

the woods were filled with overgrown green plants, but not as healthily green as the sight before him. every tree, every plant, every single living organism in the area that wasn't a mammal seemed so lively. and he regrets to think that lance could almost be... right about not wanting to leave.

lance coughs loudly. "ahem, you can enjoy the view after we set up!"

"what do you mean?"

"our first activity is~" lance drum rolls in the air, "swimming!"

"jesus christ, take me home."
