he refused to move his hands from his face no matter how much keith cooed. keith didnt find it weird of lance, he was far too flattered by the words on the pages to feel weird at all. when he calmed down from babying lance, he gripped lances hands tightly and slowly peeled them from his face. he didnt look. he couldnt. he looked anywhere but at keith.
"you wrote those?" keith asks, eyes glistening, "about me?"
"no, i wrote them about my deceased wife amy winehouse." lance frowned, looking down at their hands puzzled together in his lap. his heart was racing but he didnt show it.
but this was quite easy to piece together.
"so, the reason you don't want to be my friend is because you have feelings for me?" keith pushes out awkwardly. lances face deepens into an apple red, nodding shamefully.
keith tilts his head, pulling a face. "wait, really?"
"you may think you're a dull person, but there's a lot you don't know about yourself," lance slowly makes himself comfortable, "did you know that you scrunch up your nose when you disagree with something, but don't want to say it? and your eyes light up when you talk about certain topics or do some things. like when we watched the stars earlier."
"did you know you're an idiot without trying?" keith mocks.
"you also can't take compliments." lance retorted cheekily, biting back a smile.
what a loverboy.
he shuts his mouth after that. in fact, they both awkwardly stole glances from each other in a bug crawling silence. what was left to say? lance told keith his real feelings, they don't seem to be reciprocated.
it wasn't that the feelings wasn't mutual. keith was realizing lance as a person weighed a lot more on him than he thought. he just never felt anything but the worse about situations. no one wrote about him as far as he knew, no one really felt much about him either. he didn't know how to react to a foreign situation such as this, and he certainly didn't know if he liked lance like that. just yet, at least. he could like lance. someone with as much sunshine power radiating from his bold grins and - few, keith would like to admit - charming qualities, he was one special boy.
he wrote about him.
romance disgusted him. and lance was a fool to even think of keith in any way at all. but this made his chest release the toxins he stored his whole life.
he could give this a chance.
"lance," keith speaks quickly, "am i allowed to kiss you?"
taken aback, lances face morphs into confusion. "you want to kiss me? like, an actual kiss on-?" he places his fingers on his lips. keith bites the inside of his cheek, stuttering a breath. lance nods, glancing between keiths lips then his eyes. keith takes lances hand away from his mouth and leans in slowly.
they so gently placed ones lips on the other, heartbeats climbing through eardrums, they didnt realize they were actually kissing. it all felt like surreal. and when reality hit them only seconds later, there were no fireworks like they expected.
it was a head-on collision bomb exploding into random hues that slowly made out to be an indigo. a new taste of vanilla mixed with an off-brand minted chapstick is what felt like home so unexpectedly. keith was careful with his touch, scared that his burning hands would burn lances poor oceany skin. keith never experienced the feeling of limbs becoming jelly before, but he loved it. he felt like he was melting into lances skin.
reality hit them once again and they quickly pulled away from each other. well, lance technically pushed keith away to which keith had to reach his arms behind him to keep him from falling backwards. lances mouth bobbled like a fish before grazing them with his fingertips.
"we just kissed."
"lip to lip contact, indeed." keith licked his lips to reminisce lances taste.
lance scrunches up his face. "that's a weird way to put it."
"it's the formal way to put it." keith shrugs, trying to contain the jittery excitement that rumbled through his each of his bones.
"what do you do after you kiss someone?" keith wonders aloud.
"technically sex, but-"
keith repeatedly slaps lance on the arm. when lance starts to chuckle loud enough to wake up large animals, he stops hitting him.
the wind forced branches to say hello by knocking on the wood, they could hear the whistles of tree trunks being tugged, a strong gust somehow managed to still feel warm as it greeted them through the open cracks.
keith's eyes travel to lances at that moment, and his eyes shine. they glow when he says, "you're so special, lance."
then they died, the end.
im joking i promise ♡ ̆̈
