Chapter 29:

Shawn watched on as Layla kissed Logan back, wrapping her arms around his neck. His heart twinged with pain at that sight. He already kind of figured this was going to happen, but that didn't ease the sadness and regret.

The red haired girl next to Logan first looked shocked, then angry, and then finally her eyes started to tear up and she began rushing away. For some reason, Shawn wanted to follow her and comfort her. He would be the only person who would could relate to how she's feeling at this moment.

Breathless, Layla pulled away from the kiss. She had never felt so much passion in her life, but there was stuff that they needed to talk about.

"How is this going to work?" she asked while staring deeply into his eyes that seemed so intense, burning with desire.

"What do you mean? Isn't this what you wanted? I thought you had just said--"

Cutting him off, she spoke, "I'm not saying that I don't want you, 'cause I've never wanted someone so much before. I'm talking about where we go from here. I can't exactly return to your pack with you. They tried to kill me! Plus, I don't know if my pack will really accept you either after what you guys did to our home and our loved ones. Hell, my new 'step-daddy' murdered my father, their alpha. They aren't exactly in the forgiving stage yet."

A smirk spread on his lips, and his eyes glistened, "Then we will just make our own pack."

"Uh, our own pack? That's not possible. People don't just up and do that," shaking her head, she didn't know whether or not to laugh at his absurd response.

"Well how do you think any of our packs started in the first place? It is possible to start a pack. The question is, are you willing to make a new beginning with me?" Logan grasped her hands in his as he stared into her eyes waiting for an answer.

Callie had almost made it to the waterfall, but the tears were blurring her vision so much that she decided to just sit down. Her shoulders were shaking, and she could feel a headache coming on from crying. It happens every time she cries.

She knows most people view her as tough and cold hearted, but that was just an act. Being with Logan was her only chance of making something of her life. She wasn't smart or talented. Her only option of getting anywhere was to be with someone with power, and she just lost that.

The sound of footsteps growing nearer caused her to bury her face in her hands, not wanting anyone to see her being vulnerable, "Go away."

The person didn't reply, instead they slowly walked closer and sat down right next to her. Looking up, she came face to face with a boy from the Nuna pack. She had seen him next to Layla before, but she had never been this close to him. His eyes held sadness, and his face was scarred. It was as if he had been to hell and back, which piqued her curiousity.

"What happened to you?" her voice was barely audible, but he heard her nonetheless.

"Same thing as you. Chasing after someone who's heart belongs to someone else," he shrugged his shoulders.

Nodding her head slowly, she failed to notice that her previously teared filled eyes were now drying up. Something about his presence relaxed her.

"I'm Callie," the only words that she could think of to say.

"Shawn," he stated, and she could feel his eyes look over her appearance.

Feeling suddenly self-conscious, she tried wiping the smudged make-up from her face, "I'm sorry. Normally I'm not like this."

"You have nothing to apologize for. You look great," he smiled at her.

A choked giggle escaped, and she shook her head, "I appreciate you trying to make me feel better and all, but you really don't have to. You don't even know me, and we are from completely separate packs."

"I don't care. I don't really have anybody anymore. My pack has basically fallen apart, and the one person I thought would always be there isn't now. I just thought you would like someone to talk to that knows how you feel. I can leave if you want me to," Shawn moved as if he was going to get up, but Callie reached over and grabbed his hand to stop him.

"No, you're fine," her voice almost squeaked, "Please don't leave yet."
