"Floyd.. Floyd what was that back there?" Jai asks, running towards me, as I speed walk to god knows where.
I ignore Jai, and continue walking. "Floyd!" he yells, frustrated.
I turn around hastily, "What?!"
He slowly walks up to me, resting his hands on my shoulders. "Nothing," he whispers. "Y-You stood up for yourself. I mean, if you weren't going to, I was. I'll yell at her later. But right now, I'm just so proud of you."
I attempt to smile, and gently place my lips on his. "Everything is going to be alright." Jai coos as he wraps me in his arms.
"You can't always protect me, Jai. I don't want to be a damsel in distress. I want to be that girl who stood up for herself, and in that process, made a change." I say quietly.
Jai's eyebrows knit together. "What do you mean?"
"I'm going to legalize gay marriage in Connecticut."
____________
"Wait.. What?" my father asks, astonished.
I sigh. "I want to legalize gay marriage in Connecticut."
"W-Why?" Matthew asks.
"Because.. Things are hard for you guys, and you love each other, you should be able to get married." I say quietly.
My parents tackle me in a group hug. "You are the best daughter anyone could ask for," Andrew whispers. He pulls away from the hug, but keeps his hands on my shoulders. "But do you really think it's possible?" he asks with hope.
I think about it for a second. It would take awhile, and there's probably a two percent chance of it actually working, but yes, I'm going to try.
"I think if I try hard enough, I could get somewhere." I tell my dad.
"Honey, I believe in you. But your father and I have been trying for years with AKOLIL. And there hasn't been the tiniest change." he whispers.
I sigh. "Dad, I'm not going to do this for just you guys. I'm going to do this for all the LGBT's trying to get married. But I'm also doing this for me. I need this. I need people to realize that you aren't monsters, you're warm-hearted people, with feelings and love to give. The stuff you have to go through isn't fair." I say, and kiss my parents on the cheek.
"I'm going to Hunter's, I'll be back in a few hours." I say, grabbing my skateboard and skating to Hunter's.
-
"Floyd, that's.. That's amazing." Hunter says quietly.
I smile, and chew on my bottom lip. "Do you think it's possible?" I whisper.
"I think your mind is brilliant enough to be capable of anything." he grins.
I smile. "But I'm going to need help from you and Jai. Maybe Lindi too."
Hunter nods, and switches the tv show to Intervention.
You see, we're just like any other teenagers. It's possible that we may even have the same mind-set as a lot of other kids.
But the only thing that separates us from the average teenager,
is the fact that we don't want to drink, and party.
We don't strive to have the best clothes at school.
No, we want to make a change.
And I think that says a hell of a lot.
