The windows of my ex-company stared me down like a many-eyed monstrosity. The door kept gaping open and close like a devouring mouth, my footsteps hesitant as I looked up at the daunting structure with tired eyes. I kept my gaze peeled for any signs of recognition, taking the familiar ambience of the modish lobby with a futuristic impression that I had grown so I used to saunter in and out every day. With a piping cup of coffee in my hands and my head held high as I discussed with Cal about my agenda. The woman who was promised a future without inhumane capabilities bringing her world into a turmoil.
I felt intrusive at my once second-home, pocketing my trembling hands in my jacket as I approached the front desk. I grappled my phone on the inside, the intermittent buzzing alerting me about Tony's consistent calls. Sending it to a voice message, I focused my gaze on the doors and hoping the person I wanted would arrive soon.

'Miss Preece, I'm so glad you're doing great,' she quipped relievedly in her same quirky voice. Her eyes were wild with excitement when I smiled with shock evident in my expression. 'Thank you for coming on short notice.'
'I have been more than free recently,' I said, laughing under my breath. 'Work has been gradual. How's Jill?'
Jill was Calico's girlfriend who I had never met before but heard about on several occasions. The amour between those two was adorable and I could tell it was going really well given the full-blown grin that graced her lips.
'Well,' she sang out, biting her lip. 'She popped the big question on our three year anniversary last week.'
I widened my eyes, palming my mouth in utter shock. 'Oh my god! And—'
