After an hour of flying Teague and I reentered the castle covered from head to toe in mud. We were laughing our heads off and shivering at the same time. I saw Teague stiffen suddenly and turned to look in the direction he was looking. Severus was coming down the corridor. He saw us and paused before continue. He drew near with a sneer.
"Miss Fellstone, Mr. Montiago what on earth do you think you are doing tracking mud through the corridors?"
"We crashed," I told him lifting my broom. He cocked an eyebrow and looked from me to Teague and back again.
"Scourgify." The mud vanished with a flick of his wrist. "I was under the impression you two weren't speaking," he maintained a professional tone so that I couldn't help but smile.
"We worked it out...Sir." I quickly added. I couldn't help but giggle. Severus cleared his throat softly and shifted his stance.
"Well, that's awfully good of Mr. Montiago. I know how—difficult you can be."
"However do you mean, Professor?" I asked playfully. My eyes pierced into his. Teague was watching the exchange with a mixture of jealousy and amusement.
"If my memory serves me correctly I've had to give you detention more than most of your peers; even Gryffindors."
"I have authority issues," I told him nonchalantly. Teague tried to restrain himself from laughing but couldn't.
"I'd say I'd send an owl to your father about that, but something tells me that would do no good," he said knowingly and turned to carry on his way. Without pausing he called over his shoulder, "Five points to Ravenclaw for understanding that some things are uncontrollable."
I turned my smile to Teague who was watching Severus's retreating figure as though he had never seen him before. He turned to me and shook his head slowly. His shaggy hair was in disarray.
"I know that most of that conversation was some sort of an inside joke between you two, but I've never heard of Snape giving points to any house but Slytherin!" I giggled.
"That's his way of saying thank you. It's the best you're going to get so you might as well accept it."
"I didn't expect anything but a glare!"
"You're with me. It has its benefits," I smiled bumping my shoulder into his.
"I reckon it does. He was still him, y'know, cold and annoyed with everything, but it felt different somehow."
"Yeah," I smiled. "He's not a warm and cuddly person at the best of times, and we have to keep up appearances so nobody else figures it out. However, I can push his buttons a bit further than anyone else."
"Yeah, well, I'm still freezing even though Snape took care of the wet mud so let's go get changed and grab a hot chocolate from the kitchens before the rest of the students arrive."
"Alright, I'll meet you there."
We went our separate ways. It took several minutes for me to even reach my dormitory. A couple of Slytherins were in the common room, but they didn't pay me any attention when I entered. I changed and raced through the corridors towards the entrance to the kitchens.
"Miss Fellstone!" I froze, groaning internally, and turned to face the evil transfigurations teacher. "There is no running in the corridors."
"I'm sorry, Professor," I lied. She gave me a stern even look.
"You didn't sign up to stay for the holiday. What are you doing here?" I gulped.
"My father dropped me off early. He's busy with work."
