~ I hope you'll see this story through to the end :) I thank all of you just for reading. If you have any tips or suggestions fell free to let me know~
I watched my father wave the potions master over and, groaning internally, fought the urge to turn around. My father had a grateful smile on his face which eased some of my worry, but with my dad you never know.
I felt Severus approach but kept my head down. The black robes stopped beside the booth I sat in. They were eerily still. My father met Severus's eye unwaveringly. I vaguely wondered if my dad even noticed the cold way Severus glares at everyone...
"Severus, good man! Have a drink! Isabella, scoot over and give the man room." I did as I was told, and Severus sat down beside me mutely. I fought the urge to chuckle. Severus was very uneasy. He obviously thought something bad was going to happen, but at this point I could tell my dad was simply being friendly. "Waitress! Two firewhiskeys and a butterbeer!"
"Thank you for the book and the necklace," I told my dad trying to keep as much attention as possible away from Severus. My dad smiled at me warmly from across the table.
"I thought you'd be pleased," he told me with a wink. "So Severus, it seems I owe you my gratitude."
"Whatever for?" Severus asked in an exceptionally velvet tone. He was a snake coiling to strike if he sensed danger, but he was wise enough to remain calm and impassive. I prayed he would attempt to be friendly. Does he know what the word 'friendly' means?
"My daughter tells me you've been letting her stay with you this summer," my dad said as the waitress sat our drinks on the table. She smiled flirtatiously at my father, but he either didn't notice or simply paid no mind.
Severus made no move to touch his mug. Danger rolled off him in thick waves, but I doubted my father would notice. My dad is the sort of person who is completely calm in the face of death.
"Yes, she is a top student and will be captain of my house's quidditch team next year. I try to look after my good students because I expect Slytherin to be the best," Severus replied emotionlessly. I couldn't help but smile. That was the highest degree of a compliment a student could get from him. My father smiled too.
"She's neglected to tell me she's the new quidditch captain," he said turning his bright eyes on me. I shifted my eyes around the room, pretending to be apologetic for not informing him. He laughed shortly.
"This is the first I've seen you since I found out," I pointed out sharply. Yes, yes, I'm bitter about it. Curse me. Pain flickered across his eyes and his smile faded. He sighed dejectedly and turned back to Severus.
"Things are hard these days, Professor Snape. I'm sure you understand," Severus nodded once; "I appreciate you keeping my girl straight. Let me know if she's eating you out of house and home. I can compensate for her expenses." Severus smirked and I knew a witty remark was on its way.
"She does have quite an appetite. It's a good thing her metabolism is still high," he cut his eyes at me. I glared at him in return making my dad burst out laughing harder than he had a minute ago.
"Oh, well, it seems Izzy's finally found someone other than me that can handle her attitude and dish it right back out." He smirked. I stuck my tongue out at the man who had helped create me (and the reason for my attitude).
He ran a hand through his hair, obviously amused. Even Severus chuckled under his breath; the sexiest sound I have ever heard. My anger melted instantly, and I sighed. It's so frustrating what he does to me, but I can't let him think he's won.
