The days passed quickly until finally there was only a week left before time to return to school for my last year. That thought was mind-blowing. It was hard to believe that I would soon graduate and be a full adult expected to make my own way in the world.

"Can you handle getting all of your school things on your own?" Severus asked adjusting the sleeve of his robes. Things had been pretty normal between Severus and I after that night where we actually connected. I kept gently trying to make him take down his barriers again, but he rejected all of my attempts.

"Yes," I replied glumly. "Where are you going to go?"

"Not that it concerns you, but if you must know, I have what Lucius requested I give him," he smirked. I glared at him.

"Tell me what it is," I demanded. Severus scoffed.

"No, now come along. I haven't got all day."

"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what it is," I said stubbornly crossing my arms over my chest. Severus rolled his eyes.

"Very well," with that he disapparated leaving me standing in his house alone with my mouth hanging open. I yelled a stream of curses after him to express my anger and paced back and forth in the family room glaring furiously at the floor.

"That git left me! He bloody left me without hesitation! Who does he think he is? He will pay for this—" I ranted aloud. I turned around in my pacing to see Severus leaning against the wall by the stairs. His eyebrow was raised and his smirk was mischievous.

"Don't just stand there looking all proud of yourself with that damn smirk on your face!" I snapped irritably. He chuckled and stepped away from the wall.

"Are you ready to mind your own business?" he asked smarmily. I glowered at him darkly.

"That depends, are you ready to tell me what's going on between you and Lucius?" I retorted. He growled and his expression darkened.

"I am growing tired of this argument," he warned.

"You can end it at any time," I said with mock sweetness. We eyed each other hotly for a while until my legs were starting to go to sleep from standing still so long. Somehow neither of us blinked.

He stalked toward me on his long legs, quickly closing the gap between us. He made no move to touch me, but with him so close I couldn't help but recall when he had kissed me. My body tingled as the warmth that emanates from him washed over me. I tilted my head up so I could meet his eyes.

I found myself incapable of breathing at the predatory gleam I found there. I was afraid of this man; I just hadn't admitted it to myself before. He terrifies me, but it draws me irrevocably to him. Part of me wanted to see what it would be like to have the full force of his fury directed at me, but I doubted I'd be able to stand under such intensity; such passion.

"Your muscles quiver with the urge to run yet you stand your ground against me. Such courage is unbecoming of a Slytherin," he drawled in a low half-amused hiss. I was getting lightheaded from lack of oxygen but tried my best not to let it show. Suddenly Severus's smirk returned.

"You're mad for not listening to your instincts and fleeing, but if you insist on being stubborn I shall tell you the deal Lucius and I struck. Perhaps it will make you—reconsider your opinion of me." He stepped back a couple of feet, and I was able to catch my breath.

"I'm afraid I do insist," I responded. Had he been anyone else I am certain he would have shook his head in bewilderment at my intestinal fortitude. But he wasn't anyone else, he was Severus Snape, so he merely glared at me appraisingly.
