~This chapter is one that has vexed me for a while now about how it would work out, but I am satisfied and I hope you will be too :) thank you all for sticking with me~
My father returned before it got dark, and the next morning he and Remus left. The full moon was only in a few days. Remus was beginning to feel its effects and wanted to be home when the sickness set in. I returned to the room I'd been staying in before they came, much to my displeasure. I understood Severus' reasons, but that most certainly did not mean I was happy with them.
"Are you ready to return to Hogwarts tomorrow?" Severus asked during evening tea a couple of days after our guests' departure.
"Not particularly, but all my things are together if that's what you mean."
"We'll apparate to the grounds before the other students arrive."
I nodded.
"Is it too much to ask that we go out to eat tonight? Last chance before I graduate?" Severus was quiet for a moment, considering my request.
"If you wish," he drawled and stood.
"Where are you going?" I asked as he began to walk away.
"If we are going out I'm not about to be gawked at by all the muggles for wearing wizard's robes." He had a good point so I went to my room and dug around for some muggle street clothes. Once dressed, I looked into my small mirror. With a snap I made my hair curl and pull itself into a messy up-do. Once I applied a bit of black eyeliner and mascara I looked maybe three or four years younger than Severus. Good enough, I thought with a satisfied smile and returned to the family room.
Severus stood in front of the fire wearing an emerald green dress-shirt tucked into black trousers and a silky black tie hanging around his neck. His hair was staying out of his face for once as he gazed down into the flames. The way he stood with his back erect and his hands clasped was regal, as if he was escorting the queen instead of me. He looked so handsome tonight, and my thoughts roamed to how easy it would be to tear those buttons off—
"I thought your emerald tie was the only one you owned," I teased flirtatiously. He turned to face me taking in my appearance with a quick scan of his eyes. My own were smoldering dangerously.
"I changed the color," he responded distractedly. I nodded and walked over to him. Standing on my tip toes I quickly kissed him before taking his arm.
"Shall we go then?" I asked. He disapparated without another word and we appeared in the darkening shadows of an alley near the muggle restaurant he had taken me to once before. It wasn't busy tonight and we were quickly seated. The girl who had been our waitress last time wasn't there tonight, and the older woman that served us didn't seem to know Severus like the other girl.
"Why is it that the other waitress seemed to know you so well?" I asked unable to help myself.
"This is typically the only muggle establishment I come to besides the market to buy groceries. I don't frequent this place, but that woman has worked here for years. Apparently she is observant—or I've grown predictable," Severus told me with distaste. That made me feel much better.
We were quiet for some time during which the waitress brought us our drinks. Pleasant music filtered to us from speakers placed in the corners of the room. I was growing weary of the lack of conversation and was about to say something, but Severus beat me to it. "You look beautiful tonight."
I smiled glancing down at the table.
"Thank you. You look very handsome yourself," I admitted looking at him from under my eyelashes. He hesitated and pulled at the cuffs of his sleeves before he spoke again.
