" act two, scene one "THE RIVERLANDS WERE CERTAINLY A SPECTACLE OF BEAUTY. Since she was a young child, she always found solace in the tranquillity that was the Riverlands- the marshy expanse that lasted miles and miles held a unique look, with hundreds if not thousands of rolling hills and leagues of forest and woodland. No other kingdom had such a landscape. Despite the western kingdom always raining and covered in a constant blanket of grey, thundering clouds, the Riverlands still remained beautiful to her.
Embracing the bleak weather of her home country, she would twirl and twist in the rain when all the other children had run to find shelter. She would dance and dive in the tributaries of the great River Trident, skipping stones and splashing her friends. She would make do with the muddy land, and make slides with the other children in which they would slip about for hours on end.
However, despite growing up in the Riverlands with a relatively well-off family with two parents and dogs and horses, and loving her surroundings as if it were a part of her, Serayah Rivers always knew she didn't fit in- she had just yet to figure out why. She looked different from everyone else, enough that it scared her every time she looked in the mirror. She was taller, darker and more enchanting- as all her suitors said- than all the other girls her age in the village. She was so different from everyone in comparison, and it made her want to scratch her eyes out to find out why.
Her father was her father, but her mother was not her mother. Her true mother was a woman from Starfall, they told her, that's why she had such beautiful purple eyes, they said. She supposed that all her looks must have come from her unidentified Dornish mother, for she looked nothing like her father.
Her father, Troye Mills, was a stout man of average height and was all muscle. He had a full head of thick, dark brown hair and equally dark brown eyes in the middle of a round, ageing face. His skin was not pale by any means, but lightly sunkissed from the long hours in the sun on the farm. There was nothing special about him, and they looked nothing alike.
As a reserve soldier, he had been called upon by Lord Tully during Robert's Rebellion and had marched south with all the other men. During his journey, he met a beautiful Dornish woman and he fell for her compelling looks and betrayed his wife, and in result, she was born.
Her 'mother', however, held no resentment towards her or her father. It had been long accepted in the Mills household that Evelyn Mills was incapable of conceiving children of her own, so when her husband came back with a child of his own, she wholeheartedly accepted her with eager arms. She couldn't complain, she knew of bastards having it a lot worse when regarding their stepmothers
