As I opened the door a faint smell wafted through the kitchen. The smell of burning...
Suddenly sprinting the short distance to my kitchen, the smell of burning became stronger and stronger. In the centre of the kitchen looking puzzled at the oven (that was currently occupied by a large flame escaping from the over door) was Evelyn. My mother was staring in wonder at the fire that was growing larger by the second, I noticed a few tears brimming in her now glossy eyes while she eyed the frantic flame. A single tear slipped down her now red face due to the growing heat of the fire. I shook myself awake, suddenly aware of my hypnotism, started to shout
"EVELYN, YOOOO HOOOO"
Realizing that I could not wake her from her trance I walked briskly to the fie extinguisher thankful for purchasing the thing despite Amar's thought that it was unnecessary. Just as I turned around the god damn sprinklers (fixed to the ceiling) turned on. Sighing deeply I turned back and took my time fiddling frustrated trying to put the fire extinguisher back on its hook.
I reentered the kitchen to see a startled and drenched Evelyn looking innocently wide eyed at my own soaked figure. I took in her blond hair with strands of grey rising to the surface of her now flat hair. The wrinkles worn on her tired face, the deep purple marks circling the underneath of her eyes. I remembered how she had looked when I was a child, her face always streaked with tears but always ready to face another painful day. Shaking the image off I scooped her up in my arms where she immediately fell asleep.
