new year's resolution: trying so hard to update this book for so long but i'm going to try harder <3 i have school work and everything but writing's really just an outlet for me so i'm going to try my best to update more :") it's really long this time with multiple chapter breaks (oops) but it's all in lauren's pov

As Jake started down the road, he slowly turned up the music, trying to fill up the awkward silence as I stared out the window, focused on the trees that we drove past, staring up at the pinkish-blue sky, finding every reason to avert my eyes from his. I couldn't even look at that captivating boy, I couldn't look at him or he'd be etched in my mind (which he already was).
"Fly me to the moon, let me play amongst the stars.." I turned around when I heard his voice singing along to the music. He froze when he felt my gaze on him, his cheeks flushing beetroot red as he smiled awkwardly at me. "S-sorry, I always sing when I drive...pardon -me, it's become a subconscious thing now, I'll s-stop," he stammered as I shook my head.
"D-don't be...you have an incredible voice," I blurted out that compliment before I could think better of it as he smiled goofily at me. "I'm serious...I t-think you sound incredible...you're r-really g-good...you're super t-talented," I added as I smiled kindly at him, my heart fluttering when he returned my smile with a super sweet one. Don't be stupid, Lauren, I chided myself, he doesn't even know you...he's just a boy. A boy who happened to save my life, that's all...
"I'm no Frank Sinatra but I try...I have a musical background so I've been singing my whole life. I played lots of piano and guitar when I was little...b-but I don't sing or p-play that much anymore...only singing in the car but yeah," Jake explained as I nodded thoughtfully, rather saddened that a boy with such a beautiful voice didn't use it. I tried to imagine myself living his life; having a musical background then just forgetting all about it, giving it all up.
