Laurent wasn't kidding when he said this thing was challenging. I twisted and turned the pieces countless times, only seeming to get farther away from the solution. I set the cube down, going over to the wall and touching the clock to check the time. He should be almost done by now. I grabbed my purse and made my way outside where a cab was waiting to take me into town.
I paid the cab driver and entered the cafe. Upon hearing Laurent's voice, I made my way to him, but stopped when I heard a woman's voice. It sounded like they were...flirting?
No...no he wouldn't. I shook my head and scanned the room again, each sound building more of my surroundings. This time I didn't hear her voice, but she had moved...
ON TOP OF HIM.
I could hear her moaning as they kissed.
"Laurent?" My voice cracked and wavered. I backed away, running out of the cafe while tears fell from my eyes. I could hear him chasing after me.
"Stella! Wait! It's not what you zink!" I kept running until my feet couldn't carry me any farther. I ignored his calls and kept going.
I had to call Mick. There was no way I could make it back on foot. "Micky?"
"Stella! What's wrong? Where are ya?" I could tell he was worried.
"You were right..." I sniffles and sobbed. "I need a ride back to base.."
"Whot's going on?"
"I'll tell you when you get here...I'm just right outside of town."
"Oi'll be roight there. Don't move."
-Time Skip-
I sat on the couch in the RV, my tears staining the front of Mick's shirt. "I can't believe I was so STUPID!" I yelled at myself, trying to rid the pain on my chest. "I'm so sorry...I should have listened to you."
He rubbed my back soothingly. Though he loved being right, he couldn't stand his best friend being so hurt. "Oi'll have to talk some sense inta that bloody Spoi. Don't worry, Batty. 'e won't 'urt ya again. Oi'll make sure a that."
-Spy's POV-
"Diana, I've made up my mind!" I don't know how many time I needed to tell this woman. "I found someone else." I finally admitted. "I'm committed to 'er and 'er alone."
"But Laurent! Think about the kids!" The Bostonian woman begged, moving closer.
"We both know only one of zem is mine." I hissed, pushing her away. "I can't forgive you after all you've done to me. I don't want you to come by ze base anymore. If you want to see Jeremy, he can come to you."
She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "What can she do that I can't?"
"Keep her legs closed," I said dryly rolling my eyes at her. I heard the bell to the cafe jingle "and zere she is." I watched as my beloved walked in, stopping to scan her surroundings.
"Her?" She sounded angry. "That bitch is your new fling?"
"Do NOT call her a bitch." I snapped at her. This only seemed to fuel her jealousy. Before I could even process what was happening, Diana was on my lap, kissing me.
"Laurent?" Stella's voice was so pained. She turned and ran off. I pushed Diana away, making my way to the door.
"Stella, wait!" My teeth clenched as I feel Diana's hand on my arm. "Look what you've done! You just ruined my relationship wiz Stella!"
"You could do so much better! C'mon baby. Come back to me!" She begged, pulling him back.
"If you zink you're better zan her, you're mistaken." I ripped away from her and chased after Stella. "Stella! Wait! It's not what you zink!"
She just kept running. I couldn't catch up. I cursed at myself. I never should have agreed to meet Diana.
I looked everywhere for her. I finally gave up and returned to the base. She wasn't in her room, and she wasn't at her station either. There was only one other place she could be: Sniper's van. I swallowed my pride and knocked on the door. I could hear my beloved crying inside. I wanted nothing more than to hold her and tell her how sorry I was.
"You're not wanted 'ere, spook." A deep voice answered. I'd never seen Sniper so angry before. "She doesn't want to see ya." He stepped out of the van, closing the door behind him. "Yer lucky Oi don't kill ya where ya stand."
"Please, allow me to explain!" I begged him. "It's all a misunderstanding."
"Stella explained what 'appened. 'ow could ya do that to 'er? She did nothing but love ya and ya...ya go and kiss DIANA? That's a new low, mate."
"I didn't kiss 'er! She kissed me. She saw Stella come into ze diner and attacked me to make 'er jealous," I tried to explain. "I didn't 'ave time to push 'er away before she saw."
"That doesn't explain whoi you were out with 'er in tha first place."
"She said she wanted to discuss Jeremy. Apparently 'e doesn't want 'er coming to ze base anymore and she wanted to know why."
"Whatever 'appened, it hurt moi little Batty. Bad. Oi've neva seen 'er this upset before."
"I want to make it up to 'er. I never meant for zis to 'appen."
Sniper sighed, his mind seemingly conflicted. "Oi'll help ya get 'er back." He groaned finally. "But if you 'urt 'er again, ya dead, got it?"
I nodded vigorously. "I'll do whatever it takes."
-Stella's POV-
While Mick and Laurent were arguing outside, I snuck out through the roof of the van and went inside. Even just hearing his voice hurts. I made my way to the MediBay, sitting next to Angel, Medic's wife. She was a really nice lady. She's been like a mother to me since I met her. She was always so kind and loving. She always fussed over me. I knew I could go to her when I needed help. She had these large wings that she'd wrap around me when I was upset.(read The Medic's Angel for the whole story!)
"Hello, Stella. How are you feeling?" Her soft voice was comforting. I sat on the couch next to her, tears wetting my face. "Oh, come here, my darling." She pulled me to her in a gentle hug. Her soft feathers caressing me. "Let it all out. I'm here."
"I miss him..." I whimpered, crying into her chest. "I know I shouldn't, but I do."
"And that alright, honey. You loved him. It's going to take a while for you to heal." Her small fingers combed through my hair, her voice lulling me into a feeling of security. Her doves surrounded us, sensing my mood and cuddling into me. All except for Archimedes. He was Angel's dove. Angel was his favorite.
"Liebling? Are ju in here?" The Medic's voice rang through the room.
"Yes dear, I'm right over here." She called to him, greeting him with a kiss.
"Aww vat is ze matter, Stella?" Dr.Luwig was like a comforting father figure. His large hands rubbed my back soothingly.
"Our little darling is dealing with a heartbreak." Angel explained, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.
"Does papa Medic need to hurt somevon? Because I vill!" He was almost as protective of me as Mick.
"Calm down, darling. Sniper is taking care of things. She really just needs our company right now."
They stayed with me until I fell asleep in their arms. I remember them putting me in bed and kissing my forehead before I drifted off to sleep.
My dreams haunted me, as they often did these last few weeks. But this time was different. This time I was alone.
