4. What Ifs

"So you told me you didn't take art classes?"

"No. We had music classes though," Layla said as they settled down on a table with their lunch. 

"I wish we had music classes. A lot better than those useless art classes. Who likes art anyway?" Jinny complained.

"I do."

They both turned around to see a boy- more specifically the one Jinny pointed out in art class. Behind him Tae and Jimin were following up.

"Well, you do. But that doesn't mean the entirety of the school does too," Jinny said, returning to her food.

"What are you guys discussing?" Jimin asked as the boys settled down across from the girls.

"Art. I mean why should they teach us art? School is supposed to prepare you for the "real world". What does art have to do that?"

"It improves the creative side of your mind," Jungkook noted. "Plus, architect designers need to know art to design. So it isn't completely useless."

"Woah, somebody's an art geek," Layla said, smiling.

Jimin clears his throat, gaining everyone's attention."Hey, Jungkook. You never really introduced yourself to Layla yet."

Oh my God! For heaven's sake, Jimin!? Layla thought because she knew what Jimin's intentions was as she watched him smirk.

"Yes. My name is Jeon Jungkook, and I'm in your class. If you didn't notice."

Layla narrowed her eyes at Jimin as he spoke, "I'm Layla, and I come from America. I'm new here. And Jimin is a douchebag."

Jimin raised his eyebrows in surprise. He didn't expect that. He took it as a challenge.

Jinny wiped a fake tear. "I taught you well."

"So you said you had art?" Tae said to change the subject. "What did you do?"

"Glad you asked, big bro," Jinny said before grabbing the sketch which she insisted on taking in case she needed to admire her "masterpiece".

She opened the sketch and held it so they could all see the drawing. " It's perfect, right?"

Jungkook frowned. "It looks like a dream I had last Sunday."

"This needs to be put in a museum," Jimin said. "I'm pretty sure it will be more famous than Mona Lisa."

"I've never been more glad to agree with you on something." Jinny beamed before turning to her brother sitting in the middle of the two boys. "So?"

Tae frowned at her as he glanced once more at the drawing of the school being on fire. "You're a hazard to society."

Jinny slammed the sketch on the table. "And you're a coward! You can't even fit ten marshmallows in that big mouth of yours."

"Could you?" Tae questioned her.

She shrugged. "I don't eat marshmallows."

Her brother sighed.

"So..." Jimin said. "You guys are coming tomorrow, right?"

"Isn't it a must that you come to school?" Layla frowned.

"Unfortunately, yes. But I didn't mean school. We're going out tomorrow with some friends to a mall. So will you be coming?"

"I will." Jungkook raised his hand.

"I will come too," Tae mumbled.

"I'll come but just to escape studying," Jinny said.

They all looked at Layla.

"I- I dunno," she said. "I don't even know where you guys are going, and I think you'd rather spend time with your friends."

"First," said Jimin, "you are our friend. And second, the place isn't far from here."

"Yeah," Tae agreed. "I can pick you up. And don't worry. Our friends will like you."

"And you'll like them," Jimin added. "It's fun to hang around with them. And they're really supportive."

"How old are they?" Layla asked.

"They're older than us," Jimin told her. "But not that old. You'll see. They're not boring."

Layla nodded, affirming to them that she's relieved. But that wasn't how she was feeling from the inside. From inside she was over thinking, stressing herself with what ifs.

What if she did something to embarrass herself? What would their friends think? What if she got bored? What if the whole thing isn't worth it?

Layla could only what if.
