For the next week and a half, Layla and Jimin practiced hard for their duet. Layla helped him in his English while he helped her to improve her singing and self-esteem. Layla trained hard. She actually did that one time her throat hurt. But she was fine in a couple of days.
However, no matter how much she trained, Layla couldn't stop freaking out the day before the performance.
"Oh, God. No. I'm horrible. I'm gonna fail. I'm gonna embarrass myself. I'm such a loser!"
"Don't say that!" Jimin said. "You're not a loser. You're doing great."
"Stop lying to make me feel better!"
"I'm not lying! Seriously, stop underestimating yourself. You're doing just fine."
Layla wiped some tears that started to form at the corner of her eyes. 'Stupid tears,' she thought to herself.
"Okay. Do we do one last rehearsal?" Jimin asked her.
Layla nodded, and they rehearsed one more time before leaving for their classes.
At the end of the school day, Layla walked with Jinny through the parking lot. Unlike Layla, Jinny was so confident of herself and couldn't wait for tomorrow.
"I'm so excited!" she squealed. "I can't wait. I want to sing right now! Why does it have to be tomorrow?"
"How are you so confident? Aren't you scared you'll mess up or something?" Layla asked.
"Nope. Even if I mess up, at least I'll make people laugh. Spread a smile over their faces."
Layla looked at her unbelievingly.
"Do you feel scared?" Jinny asked.
Layla lowered her gaze to the ground and nodded.
"Girl, just stop! There's nothing to worry about. You need to be more confident."
They arrived at Taehyung's car.
Jinny greeted him, "Hey, Headache."
"Yeah, I love you too, sis." He rolled his eyes.
As they entered the car, Jinny couldn't get herself to shut up about her preparations for the performance.
"...And I have this really amazing outfit. It's - wait, let it be a surprise for tomorrow. What are you going to wear?" she asked Layla.
"I dunno. I haven't really thought about it."
The car abruptly stopped. Layla thought it must be the traffic, but when she looked through the window the streets weren't that crowded.
Tae turned to her. "Are you kidding me! Your performance is tomorrow and you have no idea what you're gonna wear?!"
"Yes." Layla turned to Jinny for support, but even she had her mouth open in surprise. "I mean, I could wear any nice shirt and pants and that's it."
"That's absurd," Tae muttered.
"Excuse me? Aren't you supposed to focus on the street so we wouldn't all die?" Layla snapped.
He turned away and started driving again.
"You...You're kidding!" Jinny said. "You can't be serious! Don't you have something to wear for occasions?"
"I don't. I don't even have a dress, and thank God about it. I hate dresses."
Jinny was speechless again then she regained her ability to speak. "I have to come with you to help you select something."
