Steve P.O.V.

"You passed that psychological evaluation, right?" Fury immediately asked as we entered his office, barley pausing his work on his computer to look up at us.

"Yes, sir, you really doubted me?" Nat replied, confident and sarcastic... it was hard to ever see her not in one of those two modes when in public.

"Good, because I have a mission, and I want you three to go on it... I don't think any other agents could handle this, and you deserve to close this case," he explained, "the chips from you two gave us Ivan's location... he is in Ukraine," Fury continued, "and he seems to have quickly rebuilt his forces."

"Good thing I'm fluent in Uranian," Nat answered as she walked behind Fury's desk (something only she would be aloud to do, Buck and I didn't dare). She began to study the screen and glean all the information she could.

"Whoa, you're not going," I answered the second I processed that she was agreeing to go. She was careful not to outright say she would go, but use comments to passively beat around the topic.

"Steve, I passed my evaluation and my physical-"

"You passed your evaluation because there is no one who can tell when you're lying, not even Barton or Fury, and you passed your physical a few weeks ago, you're not recovered enough to go," I demanded, my voice becoming stern.

"Steve, I am fine," she calmly spoke. She walked up to me slowly and gently put her hands on my arm. She looked up at me and I looked down into her emerald eyes, the eyes I couldn't live without. "Steve, look, I am doing fine."

"Natasha, this is too soon, I don't want you going on this mission," I enforced, now taking my hand and cupping her face, she smiled at that.

"I'll be okay, and you and Bucky will be there if things go south," she assured me, batting her eyelashes to try and win me over. She almost had me, but then the after thought hit, the thought of losing those eyes, the thought of losing her came rushing back into my mind.

"Nat..." was all I could really manage out... I wasn't budging on this, and neither was she.

"I'm sure Fury has a good extraction plan, it will all be okay," she continued to press on. Fury didn't jump in, neither had Buck, they were both letting Natasha wear me down as only she could. Still, I couldn't help but remember the last time she went on a mission, the agony of her going missing only being topped by seeing her crumpled and near dead body. Images flashed in my mind, and suddenly as I was looking at her face, I was seeing it bloody and bruised. I instantly wrapped her in a hug, to which she was surprised, but she then hugged me back, reaching up and nestling her head in my chest.

I thought of leaving her here while I was on a mission, yes it was safer, but I decided that I didn't want her to be alone, I wanted her protected (I know she can take care of herself, but still), and I only trust myself to protect her. "You can come... but you stay with me. No splitting up, and I want a damned good extraction plan."
