Part 28

Bucky P.O.V.

"Can you be gentle?!" I screamed at Tony, who was currently tending to my burns, which hurt like hell. Steve and Natasha both hadn't woken up yet, each sleeping through this pain.

"Sorry, this is the best I can do," he answered through gritted teeth from concentration. I gripped the stress ball he had given me in my one hand, Tony was still working on the other arm. I let a low growl, which scared Tony, but he continued to work with a cautious eye on me... I had accidentally kicked him earlier, in a very sensitive area... he still was hobbling in his gait.

While we were all out, Tony had gone through and mended us all up. Reconstructing joints, removing the staples and adding stitches, taking time to assess each injury and patch it up with care. The man looked like he hadn't slept in months, we had only landed a few hours ago, but the stress of the situation took its toll on him.

Suddenly, there was movement to our left, and we saw Steve beginning to stir. Tony shared a quick glance with me, and left me on where I sat to deal with Steve who was waking up, but needed to stay still for him recovery. "Hey, Bud, easy on the moving," Tony called as he quickly jogged to Steve's bed and tried to hold the soldier down.

"Tony? What happened?" Steve asked as his ocean eyes fluttered open in the bright light, voice gravelly from the lack of use. Last time he was awake was when we were all on death's door in the middle of a forest.

"Easy, Bucky got you all back, you need to rest and heal, I t-" Tony was about to speak, when Steve's eyes showed pure panic as he shot up, wincing at the pain.

"NAT!" He bellowed, twisting and ignoring the pain in his back, and found her in a bed on his other side. I couldn't see her with him blocking my view, but I knew she didn't look good a few minutes ago when I checked on her. Bloodied, bruised, and pale as her sheets. One of her shoulders, the one with the most damage, had pins sticking out of it where Tony had reset the joint. Tubes and monitors ran all around her, making her look more machine than human. She couldn't even breath for herself. "Nat," he quietly whispered.

He tried to swing his legs over the side of the bed, but Tony was there to stop him, "you need to stay down, Cap, let your wounds heal," he explained in a calm tone, forcing Steve to look into his eyes rather than Natasha, blocking his view as best as he could of her damaged body.

"I need her," was all he pleaded as a tear slid down his face, fear that he was going to lose her.

"She is going to be fine, I'll see to that personally, but Steve, you need to lie down and let yourself heal, than you can go to her," Tony insisted, and after a few minutes of staring at each other, seeing if one would back down, Steve relented and laid back down with a wince.

He turned his towards me, and I saw the pain and fear in his eye, "Buck, how're you?"

"Never better," I joked, earning a laugh from him, "and you?"

"I'll be okay when she is okay," was all he said, "thank you for getting us out."

"Of corse, it was so fun to drag your asses through the woods and keep you both from dying... but either of you would have done the same for me," I smiled at him. He smiled back, but the grin didn't meet his eyes.

"She'll be just fine," Tony reassured as he came back over and sat in his chair by my bed, resuming his work on my burns, "we won't be getting rid of her that easily," he laughed at his own joke, we all did, but it was obvious to everyone in the room that all our laughs were coated in tension and fear. We didn't know if she would be okay.

 Short little part because I am so busy, but I feel just awful about my lack of updates, if you are all okay with it, I'll probably start doing more frequent, but shorter bursts of story for a while... just to keep up with the busy schedule.
