It was 8 years ago when those faces changed the entire trajectory of my life. I don't regret them all because they are all I have.
"Mani, wanna Tell me what what you're thinking about now?" My friend, Jude, asked me
"Nothing. Just drive me to pick up my children at this camp you basically forced me to take them to" I said
"You have abandonment issues, you know?" She asked
"I mean I never had a mother, my friends always left, my baby daddy even left me. Everyone leaves and that's how it will always be" I said
"You never talk about him" she said
"Jude" I said
"I want to know the story you never told any of us" she said
I sighed.
"It was nine years ago. He was a musician and I was a co-bartender at the club he was performing at. He approached me when everyone left. I was closing that night and he couldn't leave until the premises were fully clear, but his band could. I waited with him and during that time he convinced me to come on tour with him because he needed me to be his muse. Me being a dumbass, I followed him. We traveled on his tour bus-" she cut me off
"You lived in his tour bus? How was it?" She asked
"It was nice now shut up because you asked for this story" I said
"Sorry" she said
"Back to it. We traveled on his tour bus around the state of California and had sex almost all the time. It was all going good until about 6 weeks into the tour. I told him I was pregnant and he was happy about it. Well I thought he was, because that same day he left me at a gas station in Encino and I haven't seen him ever again" I explained
"That's horrible!" She said
"I know. Now, he's a model that lives in Encino that has to work as a delivery man for a restaurant" I said
"You knew all of that and didn't go confront him?!" She asked
"I don't want to. I just want to go pick up my kids" I said
"Normani, you have to confront him" she said
"Jude, it's obvious he doesn't want my kids so why try?" I asked
"He left you to raise twins all by yourself! You're going to confront that loser and make him feel your pain" she said
"Fine" I said
"Okay. Where does he work?" She asked
"Slice" I said
"Cool. Where does he live? I know you did a deeper dive than what what you are saying" she said
"Make a left" I said
"That's my girl" she said
I told her where to go and we made it to his house.
"He's home" I said
"Even better. Come on, let's go get him" she said
"Nope! Can't do it. Let's go home" I said
"Nope! You need to do this" she said
"He's coming out! Shit!" I jumped in the backseat
"Mani!" She said
I heard a knock on the window and she rolled it down.
"Hi, your car is blocking me in and I have to get to work" he said
I peeked and looked at him. He is still fine as hell.
"I'm sorry. I'm just here because you delivered two pizzas to a friend of mines once and promised her that you would take them back because they had just cheese on them when she asked for pepperoni" she said
"I'm sorry about that. If your friend wants pepperoni pizzas now, I can guarantee them some. Tell them to just call this number" he said
I heard a paper crumble.
"They don't need them now. You were the one who should've just gave them the right pizzas, but now it's no point because those pizzas were the best thing to ever happen to them. My friend took those pizzas on all by herself" Jude said
"Lady, it was just pizzas" he said
"No! It wasn't just pizzas! What is your name?" She asked
"My name is Austin. What is yours?" He asked
"Hell" she grabbed him
I heard a slam and looked. She was chasing him around the car.
"Lady, please stop!" He said
She double crossed him and slammed him against the car door.
"My friend deserved better" she said
"Please, your hurting the face. This face pa- Normani?"we locked eyes
She let him go and I rolled the window down.
"Hi" I said
"Is this crazy woman your friend or something?" He asked
"Yes" I said
"Okay. I have so much to tell you, can we talk?" He asked
"No, I'm not ready. Jude get in" I said
I jumped in the driver's seat. She got in after me.
"Well whenever you are ready, my number is in this piece of paper she crumbled" he handed me the paper
"His name is Graham and her name is Gia" I said as I took it
He gave me a weak smile before I pulled off.
