The moon was high yet we still hung out by the park near our houses. It has a wonderful view of the sea. We were on the swings, because swings are fun. It was eleven in the evening, and I still have classes at eight, but do I care? No, not anymore.
"See how the moon shines down on the water? It's like the best art project ever." she said, pointing to the round moon that shone on her eyes.
"Yeah, sure. Whatever" I responded.
"Tsh."
It was cold and silent. The wind blew passing Maddie, making me smell her perfume. It was her favorite, and mine too. My head followed the aromatic scent until I faced her. I was mesmerized. The way the wind gently blew her hair and how the moon lights her up made butterflies flutter in my stomach. She looked incredible, like an angel in the night, and I just couldn't help but stare.
It took a while before she caught me gazing. Her face became questionable and she snapped a finger.
"What's wrong with you?" she asked.
"What's wrong with staring at something so beautiful?"
Her eyes widened, then she started to blush. Usually I was the blushing type but her blushing is just so cute. She tucked parts of her hair behind her ear, showing how shy she was.
"What a great liar am I. Hahaha," I said, ruining the moment.
She laughed. Her face scrunched and reached towards me without leaving the swing, leaving her in an awkward position. She was about to punch me weakly but she lost her balance on fell on the ground. She was face down with her left elbow supporting her. It was funny.
I laughed at her, I can't help it. It's like a friend's nature to laugh at his or her bestfriend's shallow misfortunes.
"What a nice friend you are," she sarcastically said as she tried to help herself up.
"Haha, here, I'll help you." I got off the swing and knelt beside her, which was already useless because she was already sitting up.
It took me a while to realize how ineptly close we were. Our eyes met. Her dark brown eyes gazed deep into my soul. I can't help but admire all the perfect features on her face- her perfect eyes, her perfect cheeks, her soft, tinted lips, There was something about the way she looked tonight that dragged me closer, like a magnet. She shyly looked away, avoiding my deep gaze. I held her chin amiably, pulling her face towards me. I closed my eyes as I gently kissed her. She returned the kiss sending me shivers and leaving us enchanted.
I could still remember all the kisses we had before. The one in the park when we first met, the one during 3rd grade when I had to kiss her in this play, and the one in 5th grade when I accidentally kissed her- oh yes, there were a few, but never had I kissed her like this before. This was special, this was magical. But it all ended too soon.
I heard Maddie gasp lightly. She moved away, looking startled and embarassed at the same time.
"I'm sorry," I apologized. I stood up and reached out a hand, but she declined and helped herself up.
"Shit!" she cursed. Maddie isn't really the cursing type, so when you hear the S word from her, there's something wrong. She paced back and forth as if she were to be imprisoned from the incident.
"Is there something wrong? Look, I'm sorry. I didn't know what-"
"You should've not done that!" she cried out. My eyes widened at her strange reaction. What's wrong with what happened? She wanted it too- or did she?
She sat on the swing, letting it sway back and forth, grunting words to herself.
"Would you mind if I ask why?"
