Chapter 7 - finding the perfect base

(Dawn’s POV)

I heard my aunties voice an opened up my eyes to see her holding me close. I tried to get up but I felt a burning feeling in my arm. I lay back down a saw that my arm must have been broken.

“Im afraid it is”. I looked up and saw dusk kneeling next to me.

“I thought I told you not to read my mind”. I smiled at him and he smiled back.

“And I told you I wouldn’t stop”. I felt something wrap around my arm and I saw my aunt put a sling on my broken arm. When she was done she helped me up and so did dusk.

“How did you defeat the army in the canyon”.

“I use the phoenix fire power”. I opened up my staff to show them the mark. I saw my aunt smile at me an kiss my fore head.

“I don’t think we will have a base soon. We need to find a new one”. I saw Thomas, the man who abandoned my father, come towards us.

“I suggest that we head south towards the woods.” I remembered the attack dusk and I had in the woods a quickly said something.

“We can’t the rouges are going to be there looking for us. I think we should head up the mountains the rouges never go there”. Everyone was looking at each other before my aunt looked back at me.

“Haven’t you heard of the tales of people going missing in the mountains”.

“Yes I have but I can protect the people I promise”. Loren looked back at Thomas then me.

“Ok but we all need to stay close once we get to the mountains”.

“Alright let’s go” but then I heard gun fire. I turned and saw Zac and a few rouges up on the canyon wall. I quickly grabbed my staff an sent a wall of air at them. They nearly fell off but they managed to hold on.

“Everyone get out of here now”. Thomas ran to the front of the people and started to get them moving. Some of the soldiers were on the sides helping the people make a clear path. I quickly grabbed my staff an sent a line of air at them which caused some rouges to fall off but not Zac.

“Dusk get David and get out of here now”. He nodded an started to ride on David, who was a horse, with the others. My aunt and I were defending the people’s escape. I saw my aunt run off somewhere and so I was left to deflect the shots. I then heard a horse an turned to see my aunt on a black horse and a white one next to her. I gave her a smile a quickly tapped the symbol on my palm and my clothes changed back into the formal gown with my hood. I quickly stabbed the staff into the ground causing the canyon wall to shake an then I saw Zac and the rest of his men fall off the wall.

I jumped onto the horse and we started to ride off fast to catch up with the resistance.

We managed to make it to the front of the line where Thomas and dusk were waiting for us. I rode alongside dusk while my aunt was next to me. I looked at dusk with a smile and so did he. But then I notice that we only have a few hours before the sun sets.

“we will need to hurry if we want to make it to the mountains by sun down”. We all nodded an started to pick up speed.

(3 hours later)

We arrived at the mountains just in time before dusk came, and I mean the sun setting not my mate, and we already set up camp in a little cave along one of the mountains. Many of the people had their tents set up but I had a royal’s tent which was a big tent with an arch. While inside I quickly set up my items on the tables and set up my weapons on their hooks. I was about to have a quick shower but then I heard someone come in through the door. I turned and saw dusk come in. his hair was messy in a sexy way and he wore a white buttoned shirt with some black pants. His shirt was unbuttoned so I could see his chest and he was so sexy and gorgeous I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
