Oscar and Adelaide had no other option but to go to their next class. Both of them had almost felt betrayed by their friend. She was in there doing god knows what with Mr.Harris! Better still, Mr.Harris was a creepy man who only wanted one thing. They couldn't stand the fact that the situation had almost felt forced, like Alaya did not want to be there. But what could they do? If they told someone then there would be a big investigation and Alaya would be tangled up in all the mess. They'd just have to sit and wait.

Adelaide sat in the free seat next to Brodie. He looked at her innocently, wondering what was wrong.
"Alaya and Mr.Creepo are in a locked classroom" she whispered angrily. Brodie wasn't sure he had heard correct although the expression on Adelaide's face told him not to ask again.
"Is she ok!?" He asked defensively, worried about their friend.
"Honestly Brodie, I don't know" Adelaide replied agitated. She was so tired, Brodie could see how worried she was. She wasn't the type of person who was able to conceal her emotions. She wore her heart on her sleeve. Oscar didn't participate in the class like he usually did, instead he stayed quiet avoiding all attention.

It wasn't until lunchtime, that they saw Alaya again, Kellie unaware of the situation, thought she had to make up for a test she missed and that's why she had been gone. But Adelaide noticed Alaya wasn't happy or smiley. Her eyes were red and puffy, her shoulders slouched, her energy completely gone.
Adelaide pulled Alaya off to the side of the hallway,
"What happened?" She asked.
"I know you think that something sinister happened" she said throwing her hands in the air for dramatic affect, "but nothing happened, we talked."
"About what?" Adelaide was genuinely curious and wanted to get the full story before Oscar came barging in with accusations.
"Just different things, I told him it was all too overwhelming" she explained. Adelaide had so many questions; what's overwhelming? Is it over? How did he respond? Why was she gone for such a long time?
"Ok" the one thing Adelaide felt she was good at was knowing when stop. She would deal with all the other questions when the time was right.

Adelaide walked straight home after school, reflecting on the day. She couldn't wait to get home and just relax. However when she opened the door, her dad was there.
"Do you want to come with me?" He asked, holding car keys in his hand.
"Where?"
"Just come with me, it's not far away." Curious, Adelaide decided to go with her dad. They drove in the car for thirty minutes in silence. Adelaide sat in the front seat with the window open, her arm resting on the side. She stared out the window at the scenery, wondering where on earth they were going. They got out of the car at a housing estate and walked through it until they reached a block of apartments. Adelaide's stomach dropped, she couldn't bring herself to look at him. A real estate agent walked up to them, handing over leaflets.
"If you have any questions feel free to ask away" she said chirpily. They walked into the newly renovated building. The smell of fresh paint made Adelaide feel sick. Apartment 2A was open for viewing. Adelaide didn't dare ask why they were here, she didn't want to know. Anxiety and stress bubbled up inside her.
"I'm going back to the car" she told her dad after taking a look at every room in the apartment.
"Ok I'll be out soon" he replied. When Adelaide was walking back to the car she turned back to see her father and the estate agent deep in conversation. This couldn't be good.

The car ride back was painful. One question was burning in Adelaide's mind. She couldn't bring herself to ask, she couldn't heave the words from her mind to her mouth. She just looked at the scenery, it was the only thing bringing her peace. They arrived home half an hour later, the house was quiet. Adelaide's dad walked into the kitchen, setting the leaflets on the table and taking out the potatoes, ready to start making dinner.
"So what did you think?" He asked when Adelaide sat down at the kitchen table.
"Why are you looking at apartments?" Finally the words. The words she had waited to ask but had been to scared to.
"Personally I think the apartment is quite nice, it's spacious and......"
"Why are you looking at apartments dad!?" Her voice was shaky, her lips were trembling.  Adelaide's heart was racing so quickly she thought she would pass out. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes. He still wouldn't answer.
"Dad, please!" She knew the answer, she knew why he was looking at apartments but she didn't want to believe it.
