A/N: Hello again. The first part of this is in Kirstie's point of view and the second part is in Avi's. Hopefully that's clear enough but if it needs clarifying then just ask in a comment :) Also I would like to point out that I have kind of intentionally made both Kirstie and Avi quite disagreeable characters in this story because I think it makes it more interesting. I am aware that they're both annoying and stubborn sometimes.
I wasn't exactly in a party mood but when Scott told me that he was bringing Alex and offered to walk with me I couldn't pass up on the opportunity. Alex and Scott are apparently just friends and as far as anyone knows Scott's straight but there's something about the way he smiles whenever he mentions Alex that makes me incredibly curious. I was unsure of what to wear so I texted Mitch who recommended that I go for casual but hot. Hopefully the clothes I pulled out of my closet fit that description. My roomate is present for a change and when I'm ready she looks up from her book and nods. "What?" "You look good." I feel instantly shy under her open scrutiny. Maybe this skirt wasn't a good idea. "Thank you." She doesn't volunteer a response and so our brief conversation fizzles out into an awkward silence that's broken by a knock on the door.
"Hey Scott." "Hi. You look nice." He's smiling just as widely as he normally does but there's something extra in his expression that it takes me a moment to pinpoint. He's nervous again. "Thanks. Are we going to meet Alex?" He flushes just a little bit and I hold back a smile. "Yes." "Well then I guess we should go. Bye Kate." She's already looking back down at her book but she gives a small wave which Scott returns awkwardly. "Yeah he lives like five minutes from here." "Ok. Have you told him I'm coming?" He nods. "Yeah, he knows." "What's the deal with you two anyway?" His expression is a little too composed and his voice is overly measured. "What do you mean? We're friends." I look across at him as we walk closer to Alex's place. I don't want to push him. I don't want to make him tell me something he's not ready to. "Ok cool. Does he hang out with you and Mitch?" "Sometimes. Or we just hang out on our own." I can tell I'm not helping with the nerves. "Cool."
"Scott, hi." Alex's eyes light up and a smile spreads across his unusually handsome face. Ok Scott. I definitely see the appeal. "Hi." "You must be Kirstie, it's great to meet you. Scott talks about you all the time." "It's good to meet you too. Really? Because he talks about you pretty much constantly as well." I take a moment to enjoy the blush that spreads across both of their faces. "Anyway, we should get going." The sentence comes out rushed and that clinches it for me. Whether they're aware of it or not they totally like each other. "So you guys met at a party over summer?" Alex nods, smiling. "Yeah he was pretty drunk so I volunteered to drive him home." "And then I woke up the next morning and found him on my couch and we've been hanging out ever since." Oh no, I am the world's biggest third wheel right now. I wasn't particularly excited to get to the party earlier but suddenly I'm desperate to be surrounded by other people. Anything to get out of watching them stare adoringly at each other.
When we arrive things are already pretty hectic. Music is blaring so loudly that all three of us wince when we enter the room. According to Mitch and Scott it's mostly music majors. Not that you'd know from the tuneless drunken singing going on. Scott's being greeted by various friends who I've never met so I hang back awkwardly with Alex. "Wow. Someone's popular." Alex laughs and shakes his head. "Yep. It makes sense I guess." He's looking wistfully over to where Scott's talking excitedly to a girl I don't recognise. "How long have you liked him?" He smirks at me. "That obvious?" "I was looking for it. I don't know if anyone else would notice." "Hmm. Well. Pretty much since I met him to be honest. Usually looking after drunk people just irritates me but with him it just felt natural and I spent the whole time thinking about how cute he was." I feel like it's better to just let him vent. "Yeah?" "Then the next morning we went and got breakfast and he was all embarrassed and apologetic and gorgeous even though he was hungover." He seems suddenly aware of how honest he's been and stops himself. "But it's like he has no idea." I squeeze his arm. "If it's any help I get the feeling he's a bit oblivious when it comes to this stuff." Alex smiles " Yeah. I get that feeling too."
