I looked at the bed when I heard that she moved a little. A second later she opened her eyes. At first, she looked confused and then tried to stand up a little too fast... lost balance and almost smashed her face on the floor, but caught on the nearby shelf. She managed to stay on her feet, even though all the books form the shelf were now on the ground. I stayed near the door.
"I feel sick..." she murmured and tried to push me out of the door so she can get out. "I need water..." I grabbed her hand and helped her with the balance again. I was still not sure what kind of poison was on the blade that cut her. I cleaned the wound and tried to get rid on the poison as much as I could. I even went back to the camp and checked for the antidote but never found any. If she was lucky enough the poison might have not been deadly. It might've been just something to knock her unconscious...or even if it was deadly I hoped it wouldn't be enough to kill her from the little scratch.
She sat on the chair and I gave her a bottle filled with water. She was drinking like it was the first time she was tasting water in weeks.
"Thank you" It looks like the bad manners were gone, alongside with her health.
"Are you hungry?" I asked and she nodded. "Tell me what you found and what happened and you will get your meal." I already knew, but I wanted to hear everything she would say.
"They were two. Man a woman. They are not here to kill you. It looks like they were lost. I think they will be gone tomorrow." She drank more of the water in the bottle, not looking at me or anything else except her nails.
"You sure? And how did you got hurt then?" I asked. She laughed... here we have it again, girl... you are terrible liar...
"Oh...this little scratch?" she asked looking at her bandaged arm. "I fell on a sharp rock. I can be clumsy sometimes." I looked at her with a stupid expression.
"And the rock you fell on was randomly a poisonous one?" she was not looking at me anymore. "Look at me. And tell me the truth. I already told you that you are a terrible liar." She was still silent. "Hanabi..." she looked at me with surprise. "That's your name, right?" it was just the way she looked at me, that made me ask.
"Yes...it's just that I thought you don't remember." She explained and I nodded, reminding her that she still had to tell me what happened. "Like I said...they were male and female. Around 30-35. They are assassins. But I don't think you have to kill them. From what I saw all they needed was money...and maybe if you just scare them they will leave... " I gave her a bowl with soup and some bread. The soup was cold and the bread was from a few days but It was still food. So she was just trying to keep them alive. Stupid girl.
She looked pleased enough with the food and never complained.
"And how did you got hurt?" I asked. She gulped and looked at me.
"I fell on a..." I looked at her. I was already losing my calm. Who was that stupid to try to protect someone that tried to kill them? Well... the girl in front of me...that's who... "The woman attacked me." She finally said.
"It was not that hard, wasn't it?" I asked. She just ate more bread not saying a thing. "If you feel something weird tell me. You can't just die now." I tried to walk back to my room."Hey!" I looked back at her. She was still a little pale but definitely looked better. "Thank you...for the food, and for not leaving me outside to die...and for bandaging the cut..." I nodded. Okay. Like I said – I didn't like the idea of her dying form a scratch. "And for remembering my name." This was easy. I liked fireworks... "What will happen with the assassins in the forest?"
"They're already dead..."
***
I was feeling less like a corpse every minute. The first moment after I opened my eyes I felt too sick like I was about to throw all of my insides out. It was shocking. Knowing that he took care of me. I was a little pissed off at myself for not noticing earlier that the blade was poisonous...but at least I managed to walk all the way back to here. To be honest I was sure he would just leave me to die. I was hesitating of telling him the truth because I still didn't like the idea of these people dead. I mean...I never knew them, but still felt pity for them. Either way, ...they were already dead. I was wondering if he killed them before I woke up or was he just spying on me the whole time I was talking to them.
