It took me a while to realize it but I finally did. He really thought that he is not able to be around other living things, not just humans. That's why there were no flowers in the house or anything green. Alone. He was so used to living alone all of the time that he never realized how empty and dead this place really was. But he was wrong. I was sure he would be able to take care of something. He was able to take care of himself, plus he was asking if I was hungry or if I want something to eat, meaning he was realizing that I was a living thing as well... and just thinking about this was enough. Maybe he should really take a pet...or at least a bonsai tree or something. I was wondering if he would be able to tell the difference when I am gone...if I lose and he kills me... between being alone all of the time and having someone around.
Later on, I decided that the house really was a little too dead. So I found an old, a little broken, a pot that I haven't seen him usе and filled it with dirt. I liked flowers, but since there were none that I've seen near the house. I went a little deeper back to the forest and managed to dig one with one of my kunais. The blade was really dull afterwards and I spend a few hours sharpening it, but in the end, I was kind of proud of myself. I walked in the house with the pot in my hands and put it near the window. I tough the place was perfect since there was a little sunlight.
"What are you doing?" I turned around and looked at his confused expression.
"Here you go. I thought it's not a bad idea to have something.... Green...in the house. To make it look more alive?" I hoped my explanation was good enough. He nodded.
"It's not taking space so I don't care. You can leave it if you like it." This answer was good enough. I smiled proudly.
In the next week, l just left the flower there. He was looking at it, from time to time, but never said anything. It was going to bloom soon, maybe another week or two. In the week that passed, we continued with the training. There was no longer a trace of the poison in my body, and I felt way better. My favourite parts of the days were usually the mornings when we were training, and the evenings, when we were talking. It turned out that he knew some of the people that I grew up with. He met some of the same people that I was living with for most of my life. I mean... why was I really surprised? He grew up there... just like me and Haya... It turned out that he agreed with me on some things and completely disagree on others. There was an old lady that was always observing the kids when training... and telling out teachers when we were not. It turns out that she loves sweets.... And would keep her mouth shut even if you are not training at all if you give her something sweet or are just nice and listen to her life stories. I wish I knew that earlier...
There was a little river near the village... I loved going there. He told me about a little bridge not far away from the village where you can sit and just hide there for hours. We were talking about the people he fought back then and I've heard most of the names...some were dead because of him, others were still in the village and were great fighters. It was a little weird. I was not used to talking with him like this, but it was great. Everyone in the village was talking about him like he was some kind of evil legend... and no one was mentioning that he grew up with them, that he was training with them, living alongside them...
I remember the day they announced that there was a traitor... that he killed a lot of people, our people... but after that, it all became.. something distant. Everyone was talking about him like he was some ancient old tale... when in reality he was living there not that long ago...
Even I... I must've seen him when he was still there, at least once. But never thought of this.
After a few days, I thought that I needed to water the flower...and was surprised when I realized that the soil was already wet.
