Chapter 8
Ella
Book of Bullsh*t
I honestly don’t know what prompted me to say yes to a date with a boy like Jagger Linden.
Boys like Jagger really only led to one of two things, a broken heart or a messy yet ongoing relationship. Both of which I wasn’t ready to deal with. Relationships with band guys weren’t the mere image of a fan girl’s mind. Those types of relationships ended up with someone cheating and the other left with a bleeding, broken heart. It wasn’t unknown that singers of popular bands got the type of tail they sought, and the fan girls weren’t the ones to decline an invitation back to the tour bus.
I knew that long distance relationships didn’t work, whether your partner was in a band, or simply away at college. Call me cynical, but there was always temptation, yearning, heart break, and guilt. Distance wasn’t a boundary that I was willing to cross. Jagger would get a chance, but that was merely all I was giving him.
As I contemplating these thoughts whilst getting ready in my mirror, I heard a subtle knock at the front door and widened my eyes. They followed the path to the alarm clock on my bureau, and realized that Jagger was severely early. I hadn’t even time to put on a dress yet. I was only in a bra and underwear set, getting ready to put my dress on; which was a simple, yet elegant dress that was tight around my bust and flowed to mid-thigh. It was a light yellow color, which seemed to be the color that accentuated my features the most.
I dropped the lip gloss tube that was in my hand and scurried to the door, calling out to him.
“I’m getting changed,” I called through the wooden door, waiting for a response.
I heard the light undertones of a snicker before he responded. “I’ve already seen you in your underwear.”
I scowled at the door, stopping myself when I realized he couldn’t see me. “Very funny. Remind me why I said yes?” I called back to him as I retreated back to my bedroom to put on my dress.
“Because I’m Jagger Linden, why wouldn’t you?” I heard him say, his voice seeming to sound closer than it did before.
As I pulled the straps over my shoulders, smoothing my hands over the dress for wrinkles, his voice at my ear made me jump a mile in my black heels. “Jesus! Who said you could let yourself in?”
“Oh come on. It’s not like you were naked,” he smirked, a playful look in his eyes.
I shoved past him to grab my bag, before waiting for him at the front door. Dates were normally only allowed to see my apartment after at least the third date, and Jag hadn’t even made it through the first yet. I could already tell this boy would be a handful, and I still wasn’t sure whether or not I wanted to deal with it.
“Are you coming or not?” I questioned, crossing my arms defiantly over my chest impatiently.
He rolled his eyes playfully at me as he came out of my room and met me at the door. He held open the door for me, the playful smirk still glued to his features. We didn’t speak a word to one another until we got into his car. Jag made sure he opened the passenger side door for me and waited until I was seated properly before returning to the driver’s side and starting the car.
I took the time in silence to check out how he looked. I hadn’t noticed how attractive he looked while I was at the apartment, because in my opinion, we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. He was dressed in black jeans tucked into a pair of combat boots, paired with a white v-neck t-shirt, a leather jacket blocking out the fall weather. His hair was fraying in his hazel eyes, sometimes pushed away from the shaking of his head.
