Madi's POV

__________

The day came for tryouts for the Lady Blaze. I have always wanted to be on that team. They are one of the best club teams in Maine. The catchers there look very competitive. I bet I could beat them.

There I was. I was looking for Laura. She was supposed to meet me there. She was my pitcher. I went up to the front desk by the field. "Hello." I said. "I would like to try out for the 18u Lady Blaze. I am just waiting for someone right now."

"Okay." She said. "And what's your name?" "Madi Treble." I said. Then I felt two hands on my shoulder. "Hey! I thought you were going to wait for me?" She said. I turned around and there was Laura.

Laura's POV

__________

We hugged and were laughing. "I thought you were going to wait for me." I said. "Well, I was waiting for you the whole time." Madi said. "Where were you?"

"Oh." I said. "I was buying water down the street." "Well, did you sign up yet?" She asked. "Oh no." I said. "Not yet. I was waiting for you so we could together, but it seems you signed up so I will now."

"What is your name, miss?" Asked the moderator. "Laura Reed." I said. "I will also be trying out for the 18u."

We took out our gear and Madi put her equipment on.

The coach came out to the field and the tryouts began. "Okay." The coach said. "We will be pairing up pitchers and catchers so pick your partners now. We will look at your performances individually."

We found a place in the field and Madi set up in front of the fence. While I was in my wrist flicks, I whispered, "This time, remember. Do the best you can, but don't cause any suspicions. I mean like your eyes turning yellow. I still know." She shrugged. "Yeah I know." Madi said. "But I sometimes can't help it, you know. You good?"

"Yeah." I said as I went into my 't' and 'k.'

Then she went into her full windup. "Woah." I said as the ball hit my catchers mitt. "You have gotten faster." "All from Lilly." She said. She winked at me. "Oh yeah." I said. "Is she trying out?"

She was. I saw her with a random pitcher. The pitcher was throwing all in the dirt. She did her best at blocking since the coach was looking at her.

Then the coach came over to us. "Wow. I'm impressed." He said. "What's your name pitcher?" "Laura." She said. "And this is my catcher, Madi." He looked at me. "Let's see if you can do well blocking, Madi." He said.

Laura tried her best to throw in the dirt for me to block. I kicked back as my knees replaced my legs and I put my glove down to prevent it from going through my legs. I dove to the right and left. I kicked back to the right and left. Everything I did, nothing went by me.

Lilly's POV

__________

The pitcher was frikkin terrible. I can't believe the coach paired us up. I saw Laura and Madi as 'the battery' and I was glad they are trying out. The Lady Blaze needs them. I do hope they chose me for her backup.

I waved hopeful that they would wave back. They did and Madi ran over to me. "Hey!" She said. "Long time no see. Want to warm me up?" I got up and hugged her. "I haven't seen you in so long." I said. "And you want to try out as a catcher and a pitcher?" Madi laughed. "It's worth a try." She said.

So here I was again, warming up another pitcher, but I always feel comfortable when Madi pitches to me. It's always accurate and fast. She went into her full windup and I swear it was sixty miles per hour. My glove hand stung.

When she was done, I took my equipment off and we went to get our bats. We were now hitting. "All players, get your bats, helmets, and batting gloves and come hit." Said the coach.

We caught up with Laura and we were in a line near home plate. "Hey, Lilly." Laura said. "I see you want to be Madi's backup." "Yeah I really do." I said. "I like her pitching to me."

Madi got behind us with her favorite bat in her hand. She was strapping on her batting gloves. She didn't notice a coach come behind her. She tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, I heard that bat was amazing." She said. "Yeah. It's helped a lot." Madi said. "Well, good luck." Said the coach. "What was that all about?" Madi asked. "I don't know." I said. "But I bet you will do well."

Madi's POV

__________

So, now it was my turn to hit. My friends were rooting for me on the other side. The first pitch came in and I swung and missed.

Frick. I thought. I didn't know what was going on. I stretched the muscles in my neck and got back in my stance. I got very low and again I felt different.

No. I thought as I jacked one over the fence. It's happening again. My eyes were acting up again. They stung as my jaw was hurting. Even though it was four in the afternoon. It was the time of day I would get it.

I decided to ignore it and kept going. I hit a bomb to left field and center field. "Bunt." said the coach. I got in lefty and drag-bunted. I kept bunting it down the first base line, which I wanted.

When I finished, I finished with a hit over the fence. "Can someone go get them?" He asked. "That would be great." I quickly ran to the ones that have been hit over the fence. There were five on the other side of the fence. I grabbed them and walked back to the infield. I rolled them in to the mound. "I told you that it was a great bat." The coach said after I crossed the field to put my bat away.

Next, was fielding. "Do we even have to go through this?" Lilly whispered. "I'm asking the same thing." I whispered back. We were in the outfield. Center field to be exact. We were charging ground balls and throwing them straight home.

It was now my turn, and I ran for the ball. It bounced into my glove and I threw a line drive to home. No hops needed.

Then, it was Laura's turn. She ran to the ball and it rolled in the grass. She scooped it up and threw it home in one hop.

Then, it was Lilly's turn. The ball hopped flawlessly into her glove and she threw a rocket home. Catchers are flawless throwers. I know that for a fact.

Tryouts was coming to a close and we had speed left. We were timed for running from home to first, home to second while sliding, and and then we were timed running around the bases.

Out of the three of us, Laura went first with a time of 3.46 from home to first, 5.44 from home to second, and 12.50 around the bases.

Lilly went second with a time of 3.43 from home to first, 5.33 from home to second, and 12 seconds around the bases. I was very impressed by both.

Now it was my turn. From home to first, I got 3.11. From home to second, I got 5.32. And around the bases, I got a time of 11.91.

The tryouts finally ended and we looked at the sands. It went me, Lilly, and Laura for the top three in that same order. "That was fun." Laura said. "Do you think we made a team?" "I hope so." I said. "It was very complex and we managed to get though it."

The head coach came over to us. "Hello." He said. "I am Coach Walter, the head coach for Lady Blaze Orange. What are your names?" "Madi Treble." I said. "Lilly Marglous." Lilly said. "Laura Reed." Said Laura. "Well." Coach Walter said. "You three would be a delight to have on Lady Blaze Orange."

"Wait." I said. "Did you say we made the team?" "Of course." He said. "See you girls in two weeks."
