Lilly's POV

__________

We looked at the team for this year. "Madi." I said. "I am your backup. I can't wait!" "Me too." Madi said. "But I don't think I will pitch. There are great pitchers on the team and they're not 'me' if you know what I'm saying." "Right." I said. "Good point."

It was 5:00. "I have to go." Laura said. "School stuff. I'm on the National Honors Society. I have a meeting. Bye."

Madi and I walked through Downtown Castine. "I'm really excited for the season to start, but I'm also pretty nervous." Madi said. "What if my teammates find out?"

"Oh, don't worry about your teammates." I said. "It's the coaches you have to watch out for."

"How come?" Madi asked. "Well."I said. "I had a friend in the seventh grade and she was a werewolf. Her name is Carlie. She was a center fielder. She and I went to school together and played on our varsity team. This was before you moved here in Penobscot. So, anyways, her teammates knew what she was, but the coaches didn't.

They had suspicions of her being different from the team. When they found out her secret, they used her as a pawn in many different things. Drills, they made her run, they made her work. They pushed her too hard and on the championship game, she broke her ankle. She couldn't do anything for weeks.

Later, one of the coaches came to her house and she told her that she was off the team. She did nothing wrong, but since she had broken bones, she couldn't do anything and it made her very skinny. Soon, she was too weak to play, but the coaches insisted that she volunteer in a pitching clinic. She then collapsed while demonstrating something to younger players and broke her spine. She died a day later in the hospital."

Madi's POV

_________

I was shocked. "That's terrible." I said. "I just hope that doesn't happen to me." "I don't think it will." She said. "You will expect it more than Carlie did. She never knew it was coming, but you will. I'm scared for you, Madi."

I just wish nothing like this happens to me. I will hope for the best.
