Alanna...
Making our way towards Kate's mini cooper, I'm quite uneasy by the sly smile she keeps on flashing my way. Mostly because I've still no clue why she's being perkier than usual.
It's only when we're safe inside the confines of her vehicle that I address it.
"What?"
"That party Jesse mentioned a while ago, it happened two years ago."
"Yeah, so?" I prodded, unconsciously cocking my head to the side as I regarded her curiously.
"So mind telling me why you'd remember what Harry Styles was wearing?" she quizzed, grinning mischievously, somewhat akin to the famous Cheshire cat.
I gape at her before throwing my hands in the air, as far as the car would allow. "Jesus Christ, that's it? That's what's all this hype is about?" irritating me further as the only response I got from her was another smile and a shrug of her shoulders.
"It was eye-catching and happened to grab my attention. What's wrong with that?"
At this, her expression turned into one of amusement "You're telling me, a plain grey t-shirt is eye-catching enough to you that you're able to remember it for years?"
"It's not my fault I've a good memory and remember a lot of insignificant things than I probably should."
Her eyes gleamed with a faraway look, casting the impression she's mulling my argument over. "Alright, fair point. So what was I wearing?"
At that point, my focus was already directed outside, forehead pressed against the cool window. So hearing her request was actually startling, jarring me out of my thoughts. "What? You're serious?"
"C'mon"
"Oh Christ" I whined as I searched my brain.
Red?
No, I think it was blue.
But her favorite's pink.
"You're yellow peplum top"
"Are you sure?" She eyed me skeptically, smile dropping, granting more certainty to my pick.
"Positive"
She continued to stare at me and I was already convinced I've won whatever the hell we're playing, until she broke out into a satisfied smile, causing a sliver of cold sweat to form on my forehead.
"I had on a black halter top – ironically enough, the same one you have in a different color."
A lump formed in my throat. A huge one that made it quite difficult for me to swallow. Nevertheless, I don't show her she's caught me off-guard. Besides, I still don't see the big deal.
"I made a mistake then, what's the point?"
"Well for starters, it can only mean I have a better memory than you. The only thing is I don't recall anything about Harry that night considering he wasn't a friend nor even an acquaintance of ours then. Therefore as you put it, his shirt might be deemed insignificant."
Rolling my eyes, I opted to just direct my attention to the view outside again. "Whatever" I murmured.
Her triumphant grin don't go unnoticed but I chose not to comment. If I wanted to get her to start driving, best to keep my mouth shut now. Soon after, the engine revs and I'm almost unsuccessful in biting back a sigh of immense relief. The silence as Kate drove was undisturbed but only until she made a right turn, where she conspicuously started to fidget in her seat.
