A lean white she-cat with black markings leaped onto a tall rock. Instantly all gazes where casted apron her.
"Let all cats old enough to swim the rapids join for a clan meeting." The she-cat, Quiverstar, yelled from the rock.
Cheetahpaw nudged Eclipsepaw who was staring at his frog dinner in disgust. Quiverstar's deputy Hornetpatch sat next to the rock.
"In past seasons we have endured Fogstep's Revolution, A Horrible Leaf-Bare, White Cough, and now the Great Shaking. But we survived. And I would like to hear of another clan that would be able to endure what we have." Quiverstar yelled to her clan.
Cats cheered. Cheetahpaw stared at his adoptive mother with pride.
Quiverstar took a deep breath before moving on. "Though I do bring bad news, I trust that such a strong clan will able to endure it."
Immediately cats began to mummer and gossip. He could see Lunarpaw at the other side of the camp fidgeting with worry. Her mentor Shredfern touched Lunarpaw's shoulder affectionally. What does she know? Horentpatch gave a slow nod to Quiverstar. She looked out at the camp. Everyone went silent.
"I am expecting kits." Quiverstar said confidently.
"What?!" Limelurk yelled across the camp.
"You can't be serious." Said Sinkingstone.
Cheetahpaw couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was happy for her of course. But he didn't even know she had a mate.
Quiverstar continued talking. "Hornetpatch will be leader until my kits are ready to start training. And Arrowtail will take the position of temporary deputy. This meeting is dismissed. If you have any further questions direct them to Hornetpatch."
Quiverstar leaped of her rock and walked over to her den. Cats crowded Hornetpatch looking for answers.
Eclipsepaw turned to Cheetahpaw and awkwardly started conversation. "Well I assumed she was close to kitting. Who do you think is the father? I mean your her adopted son if anyone would know it would be you."
"Well she has always has been close to Hornetpatch." Cheetahpaw assumed.
Eclipsepaw paused a moment before responding. "Isn't it a bit biased to make your mate deputy?"
Lunarpaw trotted over to them. Her tail was stiff and she was definitely upset about something.
"I assume you knew?" Eclipsepaw asked his sister.
Lunarpaw narrowed her eyes. "I know everything."
Cheetahpaw could sense something off about Lunarpaw.
"Is there anything else we should now, Lunarpaw?" Cheetahpaw asked her.
She slowly smirked and responded. "Nope."
...
It didn't take a genius to know that Lunarpaw was hiding something. But it did take a genius to know how many lies their where.
...
One Sunrises Ago
"I Shredfern, medicine cat of RiverClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her clan for many moons."
Lunarpaw swayed her tail with excitement. All the medicine cats were staring at her. Joy was in their eyes. I can't believe it's happening! I'm going to be a medicine cat!
"Lunarpaw do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between clan and clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?" Shredfern asked Lunarpaw with glowing eyes.
"I do." Lunarpaw quickly replied.
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Lunarpaw from this moment you will be known as Lunarpath. StarClan honors your passion and loyalty toward your clan."
Shredfern rests his muzzle on Lunarpath's head. Lunarpath licks his shoulder in thanks.
"Lunarpath! Lunarpath! Lunarpath!" All the medicine cats cheered.
Each of the medicine cats congratulated Lunarpath. Her fur sparkled in the moonlight as she drank from the Moonpool. She looked over the sleeping medicine cats. I'm one of them now.
She woke up in the familiar shining grass of StarClan. A ghost like cat walked up to Lunarpath. She recognized the cat to be Splashpool. RiverClan's old medicine cat during Fogstep's Revolution. The fluffy white she-cat touched noses with Lunarpath.
"Congratulations Lunarpath." Splashpool said with her silky voice.
Lunarpath smiled. "Thank you."
Splashpool looked worried.
"Is something wrong Splashpool?" Lunarpath asked the nervous medicine cat.
The medicine cats eyes looked saddened. Lunarpath became very worried.
"Is there a prophecy or something?" She said with more curiosity.
"In a way. This is going to be a lot for you to handle. What we need from you will define all your morals. And the medicine cat code its self."
Lunarpath's eyes widened at what came next.
"You have to kill Quiverstar's kits when they are born."
