She closed her eyes. But can still hear their footsteps approaching her. Her heart started beating frantically and she opened her eyes. What was this feeling?! And a constant echo in her mind told her to get up and run. But she was frozen, those russet eyes bore into hers, and it's slow steps making her shiver from dread.
And suddenly all of her memories flooded her mind. She remember when her father told her she is the best thing that had ever happened to him.... her mother crying and asking her to promise she will never ever hide again when she hid in the basement, while playing hide and seek... Her sister complaining God about her condition and then crying and praying for her well being because she miss her being cheerful.... Her brother making a deal with God that if He will cure her than he will become a good human and will do only good... And at last she heard him.
"Get up and run", he comanded
"No this time it have to end- this misery i can't help it nor it goes away", she screamed on top of her lungs. The wolves backed a step at her scream, but she didn't moved an inch, she can't believe she's hearing him again. She searched him in moonlit forest, looking around to find him but it was in vain.
"Get up", this time he roared
Afraid of anger in his voice, she rose from ground. Tears spilling from her eyes.
"Run! Run away", he growled.
And she did as he said. She ran once again, as fast as she could. And she could see a house in distant, hazy because of fog surrounding. It's the house she can recognize blindfolded - her home, home sweet home. And she ran and ran, until the softness beneath her feet turned to solid ground. She's about to reach her backyard. And when she turned to look behind, she saw shadows lurking in the dark, of her chasers.
Everything back there was just as it was as she had left. She went by her parents room and she can hear soft snores of her father. And she tiptoed in her siblings room. They were sleeping soundly. And she felt overwhelming relief settling in her heart.
She condemned herself, for how could she ever think they will be fine without her.
She felt light hearted, as if a burden was released from her heart. She went back to her room.
With a sigh, she slumped to the bed and asked into nothingness.
"Where are you"
Instantly came the reply, "Away from you".
She felt speech deprived. She didn't know what to say. She wanted him to stay but why. Maybe he helped her tonight that's why!
"Thank you"
"For what", his voice raw.
"I don't know what would have happened if you...", she trailed off.
"I am always with you, just some distance away, protecting you from all".
"But where are you", she exasperatedly asked, and suddenly felt again the gaze burning her face.
"Where are you? I can feel you, but I can't see you!"
"You can't see me, not now not ever"
"Why?"
"Beacuse I am only perceptible!"
She was shocked. Who was he then?! She didn't pushed him harder for she was afraid he would leave.
"Promise me, you'll never wander into the woods"
"Ok..ay, I.. I promise", she stuttered
"It's time for me to go"
"Nooo! Don't leave now!", she jumped from bed- to stop him from leaving.
And she heard him laugh- a carefree laugh, and she smiled- she don't know why.
"You're not my imagination! Are you?", she asked in a daze.
He said solemnly, "No! I am actually here"
"Okay.", was all she replied and the room fell silent.
Her mind raced for the possibilties. That was a miraculous escape, how was she able to out run the wolves?! It seems impossible!
"Don't over work your mind, there are things one's vision can't grasp, and things that one can't seek answers for", his voice resonated.
"I don't know..! All this seems like a dream. One year of nothingness and then I hear you again but still can't see you."
There was silence - ear deafening silence.
He said in a self-hatred tone, "Pardon me! It shouldn't be like this, you should never know I exist.", and a soft hollow chuckle echoed. "I even shouldn't feel anything for you, this is wrong- against nature". His tone serious again.
She was confused.
