Chapter Two is a go!

Keith woke up to complete darkness. He looked around, even blinked, but he couldn't see anything.

The door slammed shut and Keith turned towards the sound.

"Lance?"

"No, it's me. Shiro. "

Keith gave the voice a blank look. "Oh. Um, can you turn on a light? I can't see anything."

There was silence.

"Shiro? Hello?"

"Keith? It's the middle of the day."

Keith froze.

"W-what?"

Keith stood and tried to walk, but he tripped on something and fell.

"Shiro... I'm scared. Why can't I see?"

"I don't know. I'm taking you to the hospital."

Keith huffed. "Are you sure it's that serious?"

"Yes, this is serious. You can't see anything."

Shiro helped Keith into his car, driving to the nearest hospital.

"Help! We have an Emergency!"

He called as he carried Keith into the lobby.

"What's wrong, sir?"

A doctor asked, coming up to them. "Um... A few hours ago, I could see, but now I can't?" Keith said.

The doctor hummed.

"I see."

He turned to Shiro.

"What are you to him?"

"I'm his brother. He and his boyfriend broke up a few hours ago."

"I see. Please, follow me."

They followed the doctor to a room. Shiro sat Keith down on the table and sat next to him.

"Now, can you tell me the reason for the break up? If my theory is correct, than that could be the reason for this."

"Okay... Um, we went to a bar last night. We partied and drank, obviously. But, I-I don't remember what happened after that. The next thing I remember is waking up in bed. I thought Lance was with me, but... Turned out to be a rando. I really don't remember having sex, but we did... apparently. I don't know. Anyway, Lance had already packed his stuff, so he broke it off and left. I cried until I fell asleep. ...After yelling at the rando to leave. When I woke up next... Well, I can't see."

"And, did your brother just show up or did you call him?"

"He showed up. I guess to check on me."

The doctor, Dr. Antok, asked Shiro about this. Everything checked out. After that, he began to check Keith's pupils.

No reaction.

"That's bad. I'll need to run some tests. I'll be back shortly."

Keith sighed. "Do you have something to do? I don't want to keep you."

"No. I'll stay until the end. Nothing is more important than your health right now."

Keith smiled. "So... What are the plans, now? I mean, Hunk will forgive..... this...., but Pidge will have my head! And, Allura will just glare at me. And.... Lance is heartbroken. No doubt. Everyone will think it's my fault."

Keith started crying. "W-What's wrong with me? Why...?"

Shiro hugged him.

"It's going to be okay, Keith. I promise. I'll protect you."

"But, you shouldn't have to! I'm an adult! I should be able protect myself!"

Keith sobbed into Shiro's chest.

"No. That doesn't mean anything. I'm your older brother. I'll always protect you."

Keith just sobbed harder.

Dr. Antok came back soon after, holding the tests results in his hand.

"Keith, it would seem that you have a disease that causes your eye sight to decrease slowly. Your father had it as well, so we assume it's hereditary."

Keith nodded at his words.

"Because of the breakup, we assume that the disease had progressed much farther than it should have. Now, you won't be able to get most things done now, so your brother will have to stay with you. In a few months, you'll be able to get a seeing-eye dog. I'll allow you to go home now, but, Shiro,"

Antok stared straight into his eyes,

"Do not let him out of your sights. It is very easy for him to get hurt without supervision."

Shiro nodded, determined.

They said goodbye and thanked him before leaving the hospital.

'Don't worry, Keith. I'll keep you safe.'
