Merlin woke up stiff. His shoulder ached, his ribs burned, and his arms felt like a potion blew up and sprayed him with boiling water. And to add to the ache, he shivered in the chill morning air. The one thin blanket not doing it and his bladder clenched in need of release.

Groaning, as he does every morning, Merlin threw the blanket on the floor. Swung one leg over the wooden table he called a bed. Then the other leg, Merlin sat up, his eyes still closed. He really didn't want to be awake.

For a moment Merlin had no memory of the events of the previous day. Until he stretched and his shoulder and ribs reminded him. He winced and put his arms down. Grabbing a hold of his ribs and opening his eyes.

"Ouch." He whispered to himself and an empty room.

Merlin look out the small window that was an inch short of touching the ceiling. The sun was just rising. Peaking out from the horizon. Which was Merlin's queue to head to the kitchens.

On his way out the door he emptied his bladder. Then went to the door to pick up his boots and neckerchief, where he left them the night before. As well as bandages to wrap his arms again when he gets the chance. He shoved those in his jacket pocket And lastly he covered the old physician with a blanket. That Gaius seems to always throw off himself during the night.

Out the door he went, and towards the kitchen. As always people were running around. The cook was yelling at people left and right. "Hands off!" "What are you doing?! Be careful with that!" "The king will have me in the stocks if you are late!"

Merlin walked in and picked up the prince's plate and pitcher of water. The cook not even batting an eyelash at him this time. Seeing how he isn't late. Once he had both he went on his way to where Arthur sleeps.

However he stops short. Staring at the door. The blondes word repeating in Merlin's head. "Fine, if your not gonna answer me them leave. I don't want to see you till morning."

He sighed. Knowing he had to say something today. He just hoped he didn't say anything that will get him fired or set on fire. With that he pushed open the door with his back.

The room was the same as it was the night before. The plates from dinner still on the table. Cause Merlin didn't take them back to the kitchen last night. Which also reminded him that Arthur didn't eat last night. Merlin knew he should be more upset about that, but he couldn't get the taste of the food out of his mouth. Arthur could always eat more tonight.

He set the plates and pitcher down. That contained bread, sausage, and eggs. He pushed the dirty dishes away and to the end of the table.

At that time Merlin looked over to the bed. And promptly froze where he stood. There was Arthur asleep in the bed. The only odd thing about it is which side he was on.

Normally Arthur would be asleep on the side close to the window. This morning however his face was buried in a pillow. His blonde hair a messy halo around his head. Snores escaped his mouth, and he was on the other side of the bed.

It shouldn't be that strange. The prince can sleep on which ever side of the bed he likes. The thing that made Merlin stop was the fact that it was the side he was sleeping on. "Arthur probably didn't even realize this. Stop giving yourself hope. Your a servant and a man."

Swallowing down his anxiety and getting rid of his hurting thought, Merlin walked over to the bed. Seeing how Arthur's face was covered and he couldn't see the sun from the window. That Merlin forgot to close the night before. So he was gonna have to shake the prince awake.
