The traffic snaked up the hill, two lines of steel and tire, each capable of over two hundred kilometres per hour and each averaging about five in their stop-start fashion. Bathed in their own putrid fumes a hundred hands reached forwards in unison to turn their air-flow to internal circulation only. In each self contained world a radio told stories, sung or sold products to the citizens, some talked on cell phones or texted. In the upscale minivans the children gaped at movies barely noticing the scream of sirens from behind and the ambulance driving rapidly into the oncoming traffic which veered to the curb. It was just another day in the town. One person's misfortune became the inconvenience of the many in their hermetically sealed indifference.
"He's just so attractive Haz! You don't eve know mate. Like on a scale of one to one million he'd probably break the charts because of how attractive he is." Liam said as he kicks his feet up on the dashboard letting his hand hang out the window.
"He was born in '83." Harry points out with his eyes still focused on the road, as he tries to squeeze his way out of this mess of traffic, and off the the streets cause this was obviously the wrong decision.
"So?"
"So you were born in '93."
"Still not seeing your point." Liam said looking over at Harry with a raised eyebrow
"He's ten years older than you," the curly haired lad said. "That's a decade."
"Wow, Harry congrats on your basic math skills."
Harry just rolled his eyes, and finally makes his way through the exit and to the streets that weren't even really crowded. "I'm just saying that it's kind of a big gap."
"Yeah, but I'm 20," Liam shrugged. "I'm legal."
Harry shakes his head amused, and then they finally get to the university. Harry smiles and gets in his usual parking spot, with his car making a slightly odd sound as he pressed on his breaks. parking they get out the car and head toward the doors. As the students arrive through the gates, hustling and bustling down the corridors and friends greeting each other with a hug or a playful punch. Freshman stand looking scared while upper class man stand looking tall and proud.
The plan is to quickly grab his books from his locker, which might be the only way someone might identify him today. Harry plans on sitting way at the back today and ask the teachers to mark his attendance at the end of the lesson. Thankfully due to the fact that he was so charming his teachers wouldn't mind doing that for him especially if he mentioned that he was in mortal danger. So as himself and Liam part ways, Harry sighs and goes across the school.
"Hazz!"
Harry squeezes his eyes shut and start walking towards homeroom which happens to be in the direction opposite of whoever it was that's calling him. He keeps walking glancing left and right, hoping that his girlfriend Maddison wouldn't jump out of some random corner with grabby hands and that annoying baby tone she's been using ever since Harry has gotten out of the hospital. A hand clasps down on his shoulder and he almost has a heart attack. His green eyes fly open and he whirls around to face the person with wide defensive eyes.
"Why-" Niall pauses to take a deep breath "are you..." deep breath again, "running so fast?" He's panting like he's just run a marathon instead of chasing me down a school corridor but in his defense he's a twice as lazy than me and exercise is a foreign concept to him. However he is a guy with an obsession for knowing things so he must know exactly why I'm running.
"Let's get to class I'll explain." Harry say grabbing Niall's arm and pulling him along before he attracts too much attention.
"Mmm the smell of sweet drama." Niall rubs his hands together manically and his blue eyes shimmer in delight. Meet Niall Horan, one of Harry's three best friends aside from Liam. They bonded over their mutual hatred of brussel sprouts and late hours at the library. They enter the classroom and as per usual Ms. Allsion is fast asleep in her chair while her students talk animatedly about what they've done on the weekend.
Taking their seat in the back of the room, Harry and Niall get themselves situated with their books and notebooks out. Ms. Allsion soon gets everyone settled down and her class silent again.
"So are you gonna tell me why you were hiding now? You aren't trying to avoid anyone are you?" Niall asked with sarcasm dripping out of every word.
Harry rolls his eyes, cause of course Niall would know. Niall knows everything. The curly haired lad sighs and ducks his head a bit as he opened his notebook to a random page. "She's driving me crazy Ni. I mean...I really like her and all, but she's being too clingy and refuses to let me do anything. She even told me that I should quit the football team."
Niall scuffs at that, but before he could say anything they were being silenced by the teacher. Class goes by with a few note takings, a video, and now they were having a class discussion slash debate starring Niall and another kid that seemed to be very opinionated about this subject.
"Kids today Google, not giggle. They play angry birds instead of getting angry at birds. They all have an iPad but no IQ. Not even one. They PlayStation but they never play station. I.e. One pretending to be a train and the others pretending to be different trains or low paid maintenance workers. They're obsessed with atrocious pop bands, rather than enjoying real music. Facebook... but unable to face... a book, or a hoop with a stick. Welcome to the Lost generation. the TV show." The kid said as he fixes the cuff to his shirt sleeve.
"Oh god I hate hearing shit-"
"Mr. Horan!" Ms. Allsion scolds.
"Sorry miss! Now as I was saying. I hate hearing stuff like this. First things first, there is nothing wrong with liking pop bands....people have always had idols. There is nothing wrong with playing video games or not reading books. I fu..freaking hate reading and I hated it as a child, i've never read for pleasure and i know i can learn just as much from watching a documentary, and feed my imagination just as well through other activities. Things change and childhood changes and we can either go with it or send our children back to the days of rolling a hoop with a stick and working in mills to help pay our bills." Niall said before flopping back down in his seat.
The loud shrill of the bell sounds, and immediately all the kids started packing up to leave. Harry waits for Nioall, and they walk out together. Harry had mistakenly forgotten that he was indeed trying to hide from Maddison, cause soon the beautiful young lady was making her way over to the two with a bright smile.
"Hello NIall, and hi baby!" she says and leaning up on her tiptoes to kiss Harry's cheek. "I thought you were going to stay home today?"
Harry sighs and feels himself wanting to just roll his eyes and walk away. Containing his composure though, Harry runs his fingers through his hair instead and shakes his head. "I felt fine, so I came to school. It's been almost three weeks since the accident, I think I'm safe enough to come here Maddison."
She sighs softly and pouts, "Yeah I suppose....well your not going to the party tonight are you?"
"Well I..."
"Great! I'll see you tomorrow then. Love you bye!" Maddison says kissing Harry quickly and softly before leaving down the hall.
"Well that wasn't strange at all." Niall says as it was his turn to roll his eyes at his best friend. The Irish lad shakes his head amused as he heads to their next class that the luckily had together.
Harry groans but follows after him.
