I can't believe I'm gonna be late! Mr. Ponder is gonna kill me!!
I ran past a bunch of people on the sidewalk only to take a sharp turn into an alleyway. The space between the two buildings I was in the middle of was dark, gloomy and quiet. Not a single soul was in sight. I quickly searched through my pockets for my ID card.
I panicked. Mentally anyway. Finally after a few minutes of searching, I held out the card and waved it in front of an ID scanner behind a WANTED poster. The little dot of light above the scanner shun green. I stood specially on a spot that shook a little, then slowly brought me down like an elevator. Though, it was a tight space as I was brought down under the surface of the Earth.
I fixed my hair a bit. It was tied in a bun, leaving a few strands loose from all that running. I was panting as well, almost losing my breath, luckily I actually participated in PE at school.
Finally, the elevator ride ended and a door opened in front of me automatically. I quickly stepped out, the familiar shiny gray walls glimmering as I saw my boss, and my ACTUAL boss talking and standing next to a man who had messy hair and gorgeous eyes. Although, his smile was the most charming.
After a while, the man stopped talking and looked at me. Mr. Ponder and Dreadlocker followed suit. I stood there awkwardly, wearing my lab suit and smiling awkwardly.
"Miss Eva, you're late," Dreadlocker crossed his arms, glaring at me and giving me a sense of fear.
"My apologies, my train ride was cancelled so I had to run all the way here—"
"Eva, darling," Mr. Ponder interrupted, walking towards me and giving me a look of reassurance. "Don't mind about that for now, eh? Besides, we got an intern with us today."
"An intern? We rarely get interns—" I said, but Dreadlocker stopped me, raising his index finger and glared. "Apparently this man,"
He pointed at the man who had messy hair and stood there awkwardly. He waved awkwardly, smiling widely and innocently. A smile that seemed to be slightly forced from awkwardness.
"Showed up and proved us wrong. He knows what he is doing. Apparently more than you can do." Dreadlocker whispered. I looked down. Somehow I felt the eyes of the intern staring at me.
Mr. Ponder patted my shoulder. "Have a good one, Miss Eva." He smiles warmly and walked away. I tried smiling back but I failed miserably. I sighed and slouched slightly. I headed to my desk and sat down. I ran my fingers through my hair, trying my best not to rage emotionally.
Finally I looked up at my work that was pinned up on a board. I analyzed them attentively to catch up on what I was doing. Right. The suit.
I took out all my notes and sharpened my pencil to jot down some ideas or theories to test out later with the suit. Suddenly, I felt a presence behind my back. I sighed, turned my chair around and saw him.
"H-Hi there!" The intern said with such a sweet smile that melted my heart. "Eva, was it?"
For a moment, I froze. I shook my head slightly and nodded, trying to act chill. "Yep, yeah."
"I'm Varian." He said, holding out his hand for me to shake. I hesitantly shook it, our eyes locked and our mouths shut. It was like our eyes were the only way we could communicate. Suddenly, we realized that we were both just standing there and awkwardly staring so we broke off the silence and chuckled nervously. He scratched the back of his head and smiled anxiously, cutely even.
"I heard what Dreadlocker said about you," He said, giving me an apologetic look.
"Oh, that? Pff," I shrugged off, looking away and thinking that it wasn't really a big deal. And it really wasn't! I just didn't expect him to say it to my face.
"You know he told me more about you," he added, looking at me intensely but adoringly.
"Oh yeah?" I slouched a bit from my chair, turning it around to fully face him. He wore this shirt with a lovely tie that stood out. His collar was slightly popped out but it matched his entire outfit.
"He said really nice things about you," Varian explained, looking as if his stomach was churning with his face struggling to keep in something. "That's how I was interested in you,"
We both paused, not until he quickly waved his hand and stuttered. "-I-In you-your work! Yep!"
He was sweating bullets, his breathing was a little shaky while my mind was going complete crazy over this situation.
Suddenly, it felt like time froze. Our hearts synced but our eyes breaking contact.
I shook my head slightly and cleared my throat, lifting my head up high and smirking. "Well, I hope to seeing— w-working with you soon."
He smiled warmly and nodded. Then he turned around and walked away, with a bit of a hop to his steps. I chuckled softly.
