(ellixin's Point Of View)
I would normally be a bit more passionate about my hatred for movies that are made from books, but seeing The Fault In Our Stars has softened my heart on book movies a bit. They actually didn't screw up with that one. They basically quoted the book and only missed a few parts. But it's the only good book movie I've seen. Don't get me started on the Hunger Games...
THEY SCREWED IT UP SO BADLY. Surely they could've gotten in just one more actor to play Madge so Katniss could get her mockingjay pin with reason. Her just buying it has no significance. They made the most important symbol in the Hunger Games, the item that represents the whole series, just a store-bought pin! It's so horrible!
Divergent sucked too. Sure, it was better than the Hunger Games, but how are they going to make Insurgent? Edward never got butter-knifed, in fact he was never even in the movie! He's such a crucial character in the second book! I bet they aren't going to give him an eye-patch if they do add him in on the second movie, they can't explain how Peter stabbed him now. It's far too late. Or they'll pull a Hunger Games and just say he accidentally got shot in the eye in Capture The Flag rather than talking about the major plot point that determines whether people like Peter or not.
I remember watching Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. I remember not even thinking I was watching the movie version of the book. They skipped so many events! Percy didn't have that amazing battle with Ares! That was the part I was most peeved about, but I know I'm missing more. I apologise for that, I haven't read the book in a while, nor will I be seeing the movie again.
Then there's the Maze Runner, which I've seen / read more recently. This is the first book movie where I watched the movie first, just to see if my opinion does change depending on if I see or read something first. It doesn't. The book came first, regardless of if that was what I started with, so the movie should stick to the book. I think the book wasn't written all that well, I won't lie about that. There were capital letters random words, for example,on Gladers. I really think it should've been gladers, and he same kind of grammatical annoyance occurred within me throughout the whole book. However, the author did a fantastic job at describing the world. The graveyard was creepy, Ben was way better, Alby was even more epic. The movie just couldn't capture that.
All in all, the only good book movie in my opinion was TFIOS. They've made the Hunger Games too horrible to turn back now. I didn't even watch Insurgent, but I don't think it will work. I didn't even bother with the second Percy Jackson. I think that they can recover for Maze Runner, but we'll have to wait and see. That is all.
