Chapter Twenty Three

R o c k y

I was in my room when all of a sudden I heard loud noises coming from down stairs.

"What the.." I say out loud.

What could all that noise be about. I know this is a loud house but something has to be going on. It is never usually like this. I decide to go down stairs to see what all the fuss is about. I could hear people talking.

"What's with all the noise down.." I start but I don't continue when I see her, Laura.

"Fuck." I mumble under my breath.

I don't think anyone heard me though, thank goodness. I don't feel like explaining things to people right now.

"Oh hey Laura." I say slowly, trying to sound like nothing is wrong.

"Hi." Laura says back.

She smiles. It wasn't a happy smile though. It was one that you do when you want everyone to think that everything is okay. I don't think anyone else would notice that though.

"You okay Rocky?" Riker asks.

"Yeah, I'm just shocked to see Laura. I didn't expect to see her again." I try covering up.

"I knew I would see her again because Ross and Laura are meant to be together." Rydel says like some teenage crazed fan.

"That's true." I lie.

"Anyway good to see you again Laur." I say with a fake smile.

She presses her lips firmly together. I knew I would get that reaction from calling her Laur.

"Good to see you too." She says with her friendliest voice.

This is going to be a long night!

During dinner Laura and I kept making awkward eye contact. It didn't help that we were sitting across from each other. I didn't want anyone to catch on to the weirdness between Laura and I, so I was joining into the conversation like nothing was wrong. Of course most of tonight's topic was about Laura and Ross.

When the topic didn't change I let my mind wonder. I started thinking back to when that whole thing with Laura happened. I remember seeing her lost in the hallway at school. I remember going up to her. I remember someone calling her name, Laura. I remember her leaving in a rush and leaving her book behind. I didn't want to go too much into it. I cringed just thinking about it.

"Rocky, Rocky?" Ryland says while waving his hands in front of my face.

"What?" I ask totally unaware of what's going on. How long was I thinking for?

"We're going to watch a movie, are you coming or not?" Ryland laughs.

"Yeah I was just, never mind." I say but he was already half way out the room.

Wow I must of missed a lot. Hope I didn't miss anything important.

I went over to everyone else and they were all sitting down. I sat down, luckily not next to Laura. I don't even know what movie we were watching. It seemed like everyone else knew though. They must of discussed it over dinner. Then everyone turned and looked at me. Why was everyone looking at me?

"What?" I ask curiously.

"You have the movie. I thought you were getting it?" Riker says like it was obvious.

"Oh right, I'll go get it now." I reply back.

I get to my room but I realised that I have no idea what movie I was meant to get. I have more than one movie. I tried to think back to dinner. I know I wasn't paying attention but maybe I heard it and I can remember it. It had been a couple of minutes and they were probably wondering where I was. I called out asking what movie it was again but there was no response back. I started to walk out of my room and ask again louder, but I bumped into someone. It was Laura of course.

"Oh sorry." I mumble.

"It's okay." She replies. She walks past me, she was walking in the direction of the toilet.

"Wait, Laura." I call out holding onto her arm.

"Yeah?" She asks turning around.

"Um, uh, I." I stutter.

She stares at me confused.

We were looking into each other's eyes and that distracted me.

"What movie were we going to watch? I forgot." I managed to say.

"The Waitress." She replies softy.

"Thanks." I let go off her arm and then I slowly return to my room.

I get the movie and go back downstairs. We waited for Laura to get back and then started watching the movie. She went back and cuddled with Ross.

During the movie I went to the kitchen to get a drink and some more food. I don't think anyone noticed I left because I did it quietly and where I was sitting was a bit behind everyone else. I had already seen this movie lots of times before so I wasn't missing anything. I was getting food out the fridge when I heard someone call my name.

"Rocky, can we talk?"
