Right after Officer Ellen and the others left, the door bell rang. Mom opened the door, and there he was, Isaac. Something was wrong with this boy I thought, he again had the same teary look in his eyes. I just hate this gaze a lot, it makes me even more annoyed.
"Hello Isaac, how are you?" My mom asked, holding the door wide open to let him in.
"Uh hi Mrs. Garcia. I'm good, you?" he replied, still looking at me.
"Just fine. Come on in." He nodded, and came in.Mom went inside the kitchen to prepare breakfast, leaving the two of us behind. He was still standing in the doorway, staring at me. The more I stared back at him, the more flashbacks I was having about him. Not our childhood memories, the ones where we played on the seesaw, or playing Fifa on our laptops. Things that happened recently, like last night. Isaac waved me and walked towards me. He handed me a brown paper bag, that was quite heavy.
"What is this?"
"Smell it." He smiled, like he always did.
"Huh?"
Isaac nodded. I smelled the bag and I just knew what it was."Wow, you brought me food?" I looked at him and continued, "So this is how you say you're sorry..Isaac see, you-"
"Not really. I am not saying 'I am sorry', I just want to be your friend. Like before."
"We are, I guess." I pulled out a cardboard box and ripped it open. It had ice cream.
I headed towards the dining room and turned back at him, "You can come and have ice cream."
His face lit up with a smile. His smile just seems so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness. Isaac followed me and sat next to me. Mom gave us coffee and toast for breakfast, with which, I had my favorite ice cream.
Mom left for work, which meant, Isaac and I were alone. A year back, in this time we would play video games or go out to the park or a restaurant. However now, everything was very different. There was an awkward silence between us.
"Hey Hals, do you mind going out with me?" Isaac asked, breaking the silence.
"Uhh maybe," I looked down at my empty plate and realized how desperate I am to go out, "Isaac, you wait here. I'll just go get ready."
"Cool. I'll watch TV then."
After almost twenty five minutes, I came out. I put on my sneakers, and tapped Isaac's shoulder.
He turned towards me, and remained silent. I wondered if I looked that bad, but then he again smiled. That smile gave me a relief. We went to the local food court. There were bunch of new stalls offering burgers, pizzas and ice creams. It even had a cotton candy stall. I was amazed.
With my mouth wide open, I was staring at the stalls. Suddenly I came across him. His eyes was dead fixed at me. His stare was like a cobra, seeking for its prey. Isaac held my hand and walked past him.
