Ellen's Call

The walk back to my home was long and slow. I was thinking about everything, how I lost control and hit him and how Officer 115 did nothing but asked me to leave. Did he do something after we were gone? Did Officer 115 put him in jail? My head started aching.
I looked at Isaac's hand that was slightly bleeding. I wondered if I hit Isaac by mistake.

"Isaac?" I began, and when he looked at me I continued, "How did that happen?"
"What?" I pointed at his wrist, that had scratches. He smiled. Once again.
"It's nothing, you know, you pushed and went after Ian? That's when-"
"My nails." I replied. I looked down and continued, "So his name is Ian. Your friend?"
"Not really, he was my classmate. That's it."

Isaac dropped me and went home. It had been a while since I had played any games, so I decided to play Outlast. While I was busy playing, my phone rang. Once. Twice. On the third ring, I received it.

"Who's this?"
"Hey Halsey, it's Ellen."
"Okay hi," I replied hesitantly, "What do you want?"
"I got a day off today, so I thought maybe we could talk," she paused, then added, "Alone?"

This was the first time, when an officer was willing to talk to me alone. I was glad. I asked her to come over and took her to the roof. Ever since I stopped going out, I started spending hours of my day here. The other day when Ellen came, she was in her navy uniform, wearing her badges and a gun placed by her belt. Today, she looked more feminine  with her hair down, she looked like the younger version of my mom.

I asked her to seat and offered her coffee.

"So, shall we start?" she asked, taking a sip from the cup.
"Sure." My hands grew cold. Once again, I was nervous and tensed.

"Last year, during our summer break, my cousin Zen asked me to come with her to a trip. They had booked an apartment in West Vancouver."

"And how many of you were on the trip?" she asked.
"Uh, four of us including me. All girls."
"Isaac was there too, right?"
"Yeah. He was with his friends."

"Tell me about Isaac."
"He's my best friend since we were in grade one."
"And was he involved?"
"No." This brought tears to my eyes.

Everything around me had an uncanny feeling. I looked up at the sky, recalling the day. All those screams, tears, and bloodshed circled my mind. I thought about Isaac. Sometimes, certain things cannot be overlooked or neglected, no matter how hard we try. Isaac could have saved me, but he decided not to. This is what angers me the most, why would he leave me? My entire body trembled when Ellen scooted closer and tapped my shoulder. I looked at Ellen.

"Halsey, could tell be about the moment, when and how all that happened?"
"Yes. It happened the next day. Day three of our trip."
