"Come on...come on, come on, come on..." Ted paced around the train car with his head in his hand, "This is going to end today." He declared. Jo took his distraction as an opportunity to check out the situation outside, her eyes landing on Hotch, who was walking by with a detective. Just the sight of him calmed her nerves in the slightest bit, and she leaned back onto the seat, wincing at the sudden pain to her head, the dried blood on her cheek just adding to how uncomfortable she was. When she looked back up, Ted had begun bee lining towards the back of the bus.
"Ted, you have to try and concentrate-" The Doctor started.
"GET UP!" Ted demanded the pregnant woman, who had introduced herself and Elaine previously, and screamed and twisted away from his grasp. Jo stood to her feet.
"Leave her be. Take me instead." She begged. Ted stopped pulling Elaine, looking at Jo.
"You think I'm gonna let you send them messages?" His voice shook.
"They'll want to talk to me. I can get you to them. Whatever you want, just take me!" She changed her tone, making it more demanding. The younger man from before, who Jo learned was named Josh, stood up.
"Hey, man-" Ted hit him with the butt of his revolver before he could speak, and he stumbled down, the man sitting in front of him panicking. Ted pointed his gun at him.
"You too?"
"No." The man shook, his hands up in defense. "No, I didn't do anything!" Ted spun back to Elaine.
"Ted, you have to believe me, you're not in any danger!" The doctor desperately pleaded with him. Ted grabbed Elaine by her hair and began to drag her as she screamed, trying to pull his hands off her. Jo tried to interfere, holding her arm out in front of her and pleading for him to take her and let go of Elaine.
"Don't Say a single word unless I say so." He began to direct Elaine, pulling her down the isle of the car as Jo helplessly watched. "Deviate a single word, and I'll kill you. Don't even try to send out any codes or secret messages."
"Codes..?" Elaine sputtered. Ted pressed the gun to her shoulder.
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!" He boomed, and she began to cry harder.
"Yes! Yes, alright, alright.."
She whimpered, and grabbed the phone that Ted had placed on the ground, putting it to her ear. Jo realized Ted was going to make her call the BAU, and she sighed, dreadfully thinking about how she could be having a totally interesting conversation with a killer right now. She leaned in, trying to hear what they were saying. Ted was whispering, but she could hear Elaine just fine.
"H-he wants to know who you are. He wants to know who just arrived." She waits for the answer on the other side, "he says it's someone who can resolve the situation." Ted yanked her close and whispered into her ear.
"What part of the government do you work for..?" She sobbed, her whole body shaking. She didn't say the answer, and started to repeat the question when Ted put the gun to her stomach, immediately sending Jo into a panic.
"Leave her alone!" She exclaimed, yanking at her handcuffs. Ted started to guess where they worked, and when his eyes landed on Jo, he glared.
"They're FBI, right?"
"Are you FBI?" Elaine asked, crying harder as time went on. She slowly handed the phone to Ted, "he says you can ask him yourself.." Ted smacked his gun against the seat, making Elaine scream.
"Damn it!" He exclaimed, yanking the phone out of her hand. "Tell me who you are, or this agent dies!" He spoke into the phone. The answer seemed to panic him, and Jo frowned. "If you're the higher authority, then you can have it removed." Jo sat up, a realization hitting her. Ted believed he was being tracked, and that the "higher authority" had put whatever was tracking him into his body. She just needed to know where. "I want it out now..." Ted said quietly. "No, wait! OKAY!" He yelled as if who he was talking to was in the sky. "One hour...you have one hour to remove it, or I swear to god I'll kill every agent on this train." Ted threatened, and hung up, Elaine whimpering and crying louder.
"Shit, my head.." Josh groaned, and Jo looked over, seeing blood running down his head. She sighed.
