We are not some disease that needs to be eliminated. Most of us don't even want a cure. If you'll ask autistic people that if they had the choice to be cured whether they would take it. And many would not want that.

The world would be such a boring place if we were all neurotypical people.

A couple months ago I saw a documentary about a mother and father who had an autistic son. They really wanted another child but it 'has to be normal because we can't handle another autistic kid,' is what the mother said. So they became pregnant and tested the embryo for a gene that can cause autism. When that gene is found there is a 50% chance the baby had autism. 'Sadly' their baby did have the gene, which means the chances were 50/50 that their baby had autism too. Not wanting to take such a risk they decided to abort the baby. Now the woman is pregnant again and they are willing to go through the same path as before.

In the comment section I read a lot of comments supporting the mothers point of view and that she had all the right to abort instead of 'live with the burden of another autistic child'.

I strongly disagree with them. If you don't think you can handle a child with disabbilities then just don't get pregnant. If you are willing to abort just because their is a higher risk of a dissability that is really selfish. This woman already had a beautiful son but then wanted a normal kid too to be able to do all things normal parents could do with their children. The problem is that they were so fixated on having a second child they were willing to go so far to achieve it. They were willing to kill it if it didn't match their wishes.

I am not entirely against abortions, but I am against this kind of abortion where the parents kill their baby because it might not be what they wanted it to be.

Some scientist are already searching for a method to find autism in embryos(so not just the gene that has a 50% chance but actual autism) just like they can with down syndrom. This will probably lead to even more abortions.

Some people even call that a perfect world. I think it's very disturbing.

Autism sure has its downsides, but it can also give people a brighter and better perspective of life.
