The news got to me saying that a few mudbloods has been petrified. I was silently praying to the gods and my lucky stars that Granger wasn't part, but of course, I didn't have luck.
My hands went through my hair, messing it up a little. I groaned in frustration as all of my feelings towards what happened are mixed up. I felt annoyed and a bit disappointed because I literally spelled it out for her. I also felt concern and worried for the poor girl. I pushed it to the back of my head and tried not to think about it, Father would have my head if he knew what I was thinking.
-
I visited her in the hospital wing once, I spent all day seated there beside her. Fortunately no one else but professors and Madam Pomfrey went in and out. Everybody else didn't dare enter, fearing that they might be petrified. Bloody cowards. A tiny voice in my head reasoned with me saying that they didn't exactly know what it was and I myself have a lot of information about it. I hushed it, and started reading her the book I brought with me. Hogwarts: A History. I reckoned it was her favourite, I saw her reading it in the library a few times.
"Founded in 990 AD, by the brightest minds of the era, Hogwarts is one of the world's most foremost schools of Magic. Come—"
I was interrupted by Madam Pomfrey who was shooing me out.
"Out now, Mr. Malfoy! The mandrakes wouldn't be prepared for another week and dinner is approaching." She said nonchalantly as she was fixing some healing potions beside Hermione's bed. I gave a curt nod, closed my book, and headed to the Great Hall for dinner.
-
An announcement was made that the mandrake draught was prepared and ready for the petrified students to take. I wanted to visit Hermione again, but Potter and Weaselbee got there before me and so I just forgot about it. She'll come to me. I'm sure.
-
"Hermione!" One of her two best friends shouted. I saw a head semi-tamed-semi-bushy brown hair. She ran in the middle aisle capturing a number of students and staff alike's attention. Potter reached the unpetrified girl first and enveloped her in a hug. The pang of jealousy inside me didn't go unnoticed. Weasel shook her hand to which I smirked at. She didn't spare a glance my way. I didn't let my disappointment consume me so I carried on with stuffing my face with class.
-
I felt someone pull me to an abandoned corridor as I was making my way back to the dungeons along with everybody else.
"Thank you Malfoy, I mean it," I turned my head to the owner of the voice, seeing Granger herself.
"Yeah, I suppose I'm not number two for nothing," I muttered
"Silly boy, I have to go. But really Malfoy, you aren't that heartless as you want people to see. You saved my life and a few others. Thank you," she said and kissed me on the cheek. I froze and blushed, my pale skin turning a tinge of pink. I smiled a small smile and she grinned at me. Before running off to the Gryffindor common room, wherever it may be.
