I ache to fly.
I ache to soar and drift and feel the pure feeling of feeling.
To feel wind streaming through my feathers, muscles working powerfully to catch updrafts and thermals. I want to have a secret that no one can know.
The thrill of sneaking out of a window in the dead of night to do something that no one else can do.
I want to be free.
chapter 1
Not existing
It’s a hot September day. It’s in the 90s, at least-surprisingly hot, even for Savannah Georgia.
Of course, the thick coat wasnt helping. I am walking home from school all alone, as my usual traveling companion, Rayvne, was home sick.
My backpack is heavy, and I am hot, and not in a terribly good mood.
I could be dead and no one would even notice. My parents won’t be home for several hours, the bus driver hardly even glanced at me, and the neighbors will likely pass out from heat exhaustion if they even look out the window.
I glanced at the sky.
I sensed cool drafts blowing only a few hundred feet above my head.
"That would feel so nice," I thought.
Up in the air, where at least the clouds and birds would know I exist.
'why not?' I thought to myself sarcastically. It was hot. up there was cool. No one was looking. I paused to ponder this, and suddenly saw the logic in it.
I hurried forward eagarly, happily reaching my usual spot in a deserted field. dumping my backpack under the branches of a large pine tree,
I stripped off my jacket, shook my shoulders a few times,
and spread my wings.
