By the time they finished, it was midday. Elowyn had to present her work to the alphas. They were pleased with what she achieved and agreed with her judgment and the others'. For the rest of the day, she was glad that she was able to finish her task for the day. Of course, Moira was only going to find another one for tomorrow, but still. For now, the four were excused unless they were short-handed.
"Thanks, guys. I needed the help." Elowyn said as they walked back from the alphas' quarters.
"Of course! I'm happy to oblige." Bea skipped ahead.
A hand grabbed Elowyn's wrist. She looked over her shoulder, Nicolai stared at her. He cleared his throat and adjusted his collar. "Um, about what I told you in the field." He waited for Isla to walk ahead, his voice lowered. "Don't tell them about what I think of myself. They'll worry about me, and I don't want that."
She stared at him. His eyes were concerned.
"What thing?" She smiled and pretended she didn't know about what he was talking about. She saw his eyes soften and he loosened up. Deep down, she felt worried for him.
After the encounter, she tried the whole afternoon to build up the courage to ask Nicolai what was wrong. It seemed he needed someone to hear his problems... The four hung out in the library which was a small room but had bookshelves reaching up to the ceiling. Elowyn spent her time informing, mostly Isla and Bea, about Pinevale's history. Nicolai was near the crackling fire.
The old wooden doors to the library swung open. "Elowyn, I—" Maya walked in, her eyes widened to the sight of the other three. "Elowyn, and others, I was told you were in the library. Can we talk?"
She nodded and followed her out. "What?"
"You've been spending a lot of time with those guests." A hint of disgust showed through her gritty smile.
"What's wrong with them? They just came here for hospitalization when no one else would. Moira did a good thing." Elowyn rolled her eyes.
Maya smacked her jokingly. "And I didn't say Moira did anything bad. It's just you don't find a lot of other werewolves in dire need of assistance for their reason." She scoffed. "It's like they stole it out of a story."
Her sister's words made her head boil. "You never know until you actually speak to them. I know some of us don't trust them, but maybe you should learn to. They're a lot nicer than most would think."
"Listen, I just want you to be careful." She lets out a wistful sigh. "This wasn't my intention when I told you I wanted to speak with you. My idea was to just have tea or something."
"I'm sorry, Maya. But, you don't start conversations like that." The sisters laughed. "You still up for tea?"
"Elowyn! Elowyn!" A voice called from the library. It sounded like Isla's.
They looked urgently at the doors. She busted through and into the library. Nicolai was laying on the floor with his eyes rolling back into his head. Isla and Bea were hovering over him. Maya looked over her shoulder, gasping in her sister's ear.
"I gotta get Nolan." She heard Maya run down the halls looking for one of the Medics, specifically Nolan.
Elowyn ran over to them and knelt down next to Isla. "What's— what happened?" She watched him spasm on the floor in shock.
"I— I don't know! I was talking to Bea with our backs turned." Isla was panicking, she didn't know what to do.
Rushing footsteps were nearing towards them. Elowyn looked up and saw Maya coming back with Nolan. He told them to back up and began working. The next thing she knew, other Medics were flooding in and moving him to the medical room. It was nearly two hours which dragged into the night before the medics had been able to report back. Those couple hours she got to watch Bea pace around, worrying.
Nolan pushed through the exam room. "Hey, Elle." He said in a sincere voice. "This guy's your friend?"
"And theirs." She responded, pointing at Isla and Bea who were crowding the Medic.
He cleared his throat and nodded at them. "Well, Mr. Ladywell is suffering from a seizure. Luckily, he's okay. He'll be out for a bit."
Elowyn hugged him, patting his back. "Thank you, Nolan."
"Just doing my job, Elle." He scoffed.
"Can we see him?" Bea bounced a little. Nolan nodded and pointed to Nicolai's room. "Thank you, sir." He hugged him as well.
Isla and Bea brushed past them and walked into his room. "Geez, everyone's acting like I'm Superman."
"To be fair, they're the only ones they got. It would be really hard to lose someone you depend so much on, right?" She said. The truth behind that made her mood gloomy.
Nolan could see her sadness as he put an arm around her. "Yeah, I can only imagine. But, I gotta say... it's good to be Superman." He put his hands on his hips and posed, flashing a smile. She chuckled at his childish pose. Nolan grinned as rubbed her head. He used to always give her noogies since they were pups.
"I'm going to get a small snack, see 'ya 'round, Nolan!" She waved, leaving the others in there.
