"Ahhhh!" A sound awoke Finn from his light sleep, at around 1.30 in the morning: a high pitched scream coming from Matthew's bedroom. Finn rushed up to console his younger brother. When he got to his younger brother's door, he opened it and found his five year old brother sitting bolt upright in his covers, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face. "Oh darling," Finn began before rushing over to Matthew and lifting him easily into his warm, loving lap. Finn gently cradled Matthew, rocking him backwards and forwards soothingly for a few minutes before asking "What was it sweetheart? A bad dream?" Matthew slowly nodded. "Yes, a really bad one. Finny, I'm so scared!" Matthew said, holding closer to Finn's chest. "It's ok, it's ok I'm here now, you're safe. Do you want to tell me about it?" Finn asked, consoling the small child. "Well, a mean, big, scary monster came and took you away forever and you got really angry and then you didn't love me anymore! Then the monster killed you and came back for me. It was the monster that killed mummy and daddy." Matthew said breathing heavily again, recounting his traumatic nightmare. "I will always love you, always. Nothing can hurt you, not whilst I'm here, and I'm not ever going to go anywhere or ever leave you. I promise." Finn said, calmingly, kissing Matthew's head. "I'm so, so sorry Finn, I didn't mean to wake you." Matthew said quietly. "Don't be silly, I'm glad that you did wake me, I want you to feel safe and loved." Finn replied. "Thank you, Finny" Matthew said before nuzzling his face into the crook of Finn's neck.
Finn carried Matthew downstairs and then climbed into his own bed where they eventually fell asleep again embracing each other, after reassuring Matthew that he would always be there. Matthew drifted off on his big brothers chest to Finn's singing of "Keep Holding On". Neither brother slept much through the rest of the night. When the morning came, Matthew and Finn woke when Finn rolled over in his bed. "Morning honey," Finn said in a barely audible whisper. Rubbing sleep out of his eyes, Matthew rolled over to face his brother who had his arm around him protectively. "Morning Finny," Matthew replied, smiling.
They both got up and Finn carried Matthew downstairs to the kitchen. Here, Finn places Matthew on a stool and poured himself a bowl of cereal. After eating breakfast, Finn persuaded Matthew to have a bath on the condition that Finn would play with him after school and they could watch Sleeping Beauty, Matthew's favourite Disney film. Finn lovingly ran the rap over the bath and adjusted the temperature to make sure it was just right: not too hot, not too cold. Finn poured bubble bath into the water and swilled it around, forming foaming bubbles. Matthew was stood at the door, his towel wrapped around his body. "Right, buddy. Time to get in." Finn said. "Close your eyes Finny and no peeking." Matthew giggled as Finn closed his eyes. "Alright, I promise." Finn smiled. When Matthew has got into the steaming water, he started to play with the bubbles and put them on the palm of his hand and on his rubber ducks, trying to make moustaches on them. Finn sat on the side of the tub, watching contentedly at the boy playing in front of him. He wet Matthews hair and lathered it in sweet smelling shampoo and hair gel before rinsing and squeezing body lotion into his hand. Tickling Matthew under the arms, Finn washed Matthew's body and rinsed him off before taking a fluffy towel off of the rack and holding it out in front of him, closing his eyes tightly to show Matthew he wasn't looking. Finn wrapped the warm towel around Matthew and rubbed gently up and down his back before moving to dry his hair.
Once Matthew was dry, Finn dressed Matthew and got him ready for school. Gently picking him up, Finn buckled Matthew into his car seat on the passenger side and got into the car.
They arrived at school shortly afterwards and Finn walked Matthew through the reception, hand in hand and to their first class which they shared, Glee. This was Matthew and Finn's favourite lesson as they got to sing with their friends and have fun. However, Matthew was still a little cautious about going to Glee that day as Quinn would be there as well, this was her first lesson. Matthew remembered vividly the threats that Quinn had made. Despite this, Blaine would also be there and this made Matthew relax considerably as he loved Blaine and Blaine loves him and would always care for him and look after him, but not quite as much as Finn. Matthew loved Finn more than anything or anyone in the world because Finn was his world and Matthew was Finn's.
They entered the choir room to find it empty bar Mr Schue and Brad, the piano player. "Hey guys," Mr Schue started when he saw them enter. He saw the redness in Matthew's eyes which he knew meant that he hadn't slept well. They took their seats next to each other and waited for the others to come.
When everyone was there, including Quinn who gave Matthew an evil glare when she entered making him curl back into his seat and towards Finn's side, forgetting the heed of Quinn's threats. Blaine saw this and moved down to sit next to Matthew and took his hand gently. Finn smiled at this as he saw one of his friends looking after his brother, his world. Giving an encouraging squeeze, Blaine smiled at Matthew and the lesson began.
That lesson, Mr Schue was leading in choreography for Sectionals which they needed to place at to stay one of the school clubs. Rachel suddenly stopped the dancing after a while and said "Mr Schue, could we stop please?" "Rachel, you don't have to ask permission every time you need to go to the bathroom, you can just go." Mr Schue explained, obviously a little annoyed. "It's not my bladder, it's the choreography." Rachel retorted in a raised voice. "What's wrong with the choreography?" Mr Schue asked in a defensive tone. "We can't compete with Vocal Adrenaline with these steps, while you're an excellent vocal coach, you're not a trained choreographer. We need Dakota Stanley." Rachel said confidently. Mr Schue looked hurt and shocked. "Ok then, go and hire Dakota then, I'll still be around to coach with the singing, just not the choreography." Mr Schue said. It was clear to Matthew that Quinn and her two cheerleader friends who had joined with her, Brittany and Santana, has put Rachel up to it. When class ended, Matthew waited behind with Blaine and tugged gently on and Schue's sleeve. Mr Schue bent down to his height and Matthew said "I think that your choreography was really good and we need you. I don't want to hire Dakota Stanley." Matthew said. This made Mr Schue beam and then say "Thank you sweetheart, that was lovely it's nice to know that somebody believes in my choreography." "I know that Finn does as well." Matthew whispered into his ear. "I do too, Mr Schue." Blaine said from behind Matthew.
Blaine carried Matthew to his next class, hugging him closely as he saw that Quinn had scared Matthew as he sang quieter than usual.
After class, Matthew walked alone down the corridor. Out of nowhere, one of the cheerleaders that Matthew didn't recognise threw an ice cold slushie into his face and eyes. Matthew's eyes burnt and his whole face was frozen and cold, dripping with ice. Puck, one of Finn's friends he had briefly, met saw him and rushed over to help clear him up. He went to where Matthew was now sitting on the floor and embraced him warmly and lifted his easily into a hug and carried him off to the toilets. Puck placed him down onto a bench next to the sinks. He then lifted Matthew onto his lap and ran the tap warm. Gently soaking Matthew's hair and face, Puck soothed Matthew and when he was done pulled him into a warm hug. "Thank you Puck" Matthew said, snuggling close into Puck's chest.
