I don't want to go there.Naruto sat outside the Ninja Academy. He saw all the kids going in there being excited for their first lessons. They all wanted to become ninja just like him. But what they didn't knew is that Naruto, normally being energetic, had no motivation to go to school. He always had a hard time in the hidden leaf village as everyone, both adults and kids, neglected him. For what he was. For what he contained.
Naruto heard the bell ring and sighed. He had to move already or else he would be late. And he had no intention to be late for his first lesson and being scolded for the first time in his academy career. Naruto rose from the bench and began slowly to move towards the school. He saw all the children talking excitedly to each other about what they would learn and how they would become great ninja. And although some of the kids have him a grim glance, Naruto ignored them. He had no intention to get into trouble on his first day.
Naruto stopped walking as he reached his new classroom. Room 3-A. He sighed one more time before he opened the door and was greeted by an immense number of heads eyeing him.
"Naruto Uzumaki! There you are. I was just wondering why you were absent.", the teacher exclaimed.
Naruto shrugged. "I'm sorry. Won't happen again."
The teacher nodded. "I hope so. Now, if you'd take a seat next to, er, Miss Yamanaka over there."
Naruto glanced shortly at the girl the teacher meant and moved towards her. On the way to his seat he was greeted with an amount of hisses and some hateful comments. Naruto ignored them and sat down on the chair, putting his arms on his desk and his chin on his arms. But he had no time to be thoughtful as he was interrupted by someone talking to him.
"Hi, my name is Ino. Ino Yamanaka. Nice to meet you."
Naruto looked at her. She was smiling and streched her hand out. He was confused as he didn't expect any person to voluntarely talk to him, nor being nice to him. Yet he thought it would only be appropriate to greet her back.
"I'm Naruto. Uzumaki. Nice to meet you, too.", Naruto said as he tried to smile at her.
Ino smiled once more before she turned to the teacher and listened to what he was saying. Naruto took his time to look at her properly. She had beautiful blond hair, beautiful turquoise eyes and a pretty face. Yet he had to admit that purple was fitting her just perfectly. But he didn't want to stare so he turned to the teacher as well and began concentrating in class.
---
At least that was what Naruto tried. But the teacher was just so boring so he decided do his own research and read some ninja art scrolls he retrieved the week before. Those scrolls had more useful information to offer than the lessons of this put-to-sleep-teacher. But just as he barely finished the first scroll, the bell rang, signalling the end of the first lesson. The teacher said his goodbye and went off the next class. Naruto turned his focus back on the scrolls. Yet again he was not able to read them quietly as a voice interrupted him.
"Whatcha reading there?"
Naruto turned to Ino as she was the one asking the question.
"I, ah, I'm reading a bit about ninja art."
Ino grinned, being amused.
"Interesting. But it's not good to just ignore the lessons. That's one of the responsibilities we as ninja students have.", she said teasingly.
Naruto grinned as well by now as he answered.
"You know, you learn much more by just doing work for yourself than listening ti the teacher being a drug basically."
Ino giggled and that was what caught him by surprise. He never had a good talk with people in his village so he was wondering how this girl could talk to him that freely, without any glances of hatred or fear. That is what made him smile.
---
After some tiring lessons, the students were excused for lunch break. Naruto was standing outside the school building, wondering what he could do during lunch time. He considered to go to Ichiraku's but he only would be late if he really went there. But Naruto had no time to think about his options anyway as a certain blonde girl was walking towards him. He immediately recognized her and began to smile softly which made Ino smile as well.
"Happy to see me again?"
"Well, it's always nice to see a familiar face again after all those lessons."
"True", Ino added chuckling.
Naruto was happy to be able to talk freely to Ino without being judged by what his body contained. Although he believed that Ino was one of the many children who never heard of the story if the Yondaime Hokage and the Nine-Tailed-Fox. But he had no chance to properly think about that since his stomach began rumbling.
"Oh man, I gotta eat or I'm gonna drop dead", Naruto exclaimed dramatically.
Ino giggled. "You're right. I haven't eaten as well and I'm starving."
Naruto smiled at Ino and decided to ask her something.
"Hey, what about we go and grab something to eat together?"
Right after he dropped the question, Naruto immediately regretted it. He knew it was obvious that many of the other kids disliked, yet hated, him for what he was exclaimed to be. He assumed that Ino would be another girl to right away reject his offer and would show him a cold side. But surprisingly, Ino was nothing like that.
She smiled at him. "Why of course. Let's get going."
Just as they were about to leave, Naruto noticed a group of other girls standing nearby and glancing suspiciously at Ino. He remembered them to be Sakura Haruno, Tenten and Hinata Hyuga. Ino just shrugged at them and grabbed Naruto's wrist before increasing her pace.
"Come on. We don't have much time!"
And with that, both of them were gone. But what Naruto didn't realized is that this day and this little talking with Ino at the beginning of the leading was the beginning of a blooming friendship. A friendship that would soon turn into something more beautiful....
