I love you"What are you doing Luna? Help her” Jenny sneered.
“You know I can't, I can't swim. If I get into it, we'll both drown and--” I trailed off, I felt like I was being selfish, like I was thinking of myself alone.
Taking deep breaths, I walked to the edge of the lake looking into it with a strong determination to save my best friend.
“D--don't!" Eva said sternly, looking at me with wide eyes. I almost refused to listen to her until I noticed that she was silently passing me a message.
Stay and avenge my death.
I let out a loud cry, my best friend was dying before my very eyes and all I could do watch her choke and struggle to breath and this made me really determined to avenge her death.
“M-mum pl-ease I'm d-d-dy--ing” The strangled cries of my best friend made me sob even harder.
“OMG Eva, you act like I care” Jenny said with no emotion as she stared at her drowning daughter.
Eva looked shocked and lost control and that was when everything hit rock bottom, she drowned. I screamed as I saw a few amount of bubbles on the surface of the water and it was gone, my best friend was gone too. I know I was screaming, but I couldn't hear myself.
Why was no-one around to see this? I looked around, no-one was but when I looked up at the house, I didn't fail to notice a shadow by my granddad's window. The curtains swayed as I looked. Didn't he or she care? Or did they even see it?
“Back to where we stopped before that helpless bitch interrupted” Jenny said walking to me again. Even as I was so determined to avenge Eva's death, I didn't care if Jenny killed me or not because the person I loved most was dead!
But just as she was about to do whatever was on her mind, the back door swung open and my mum emerged with Rebecca, Jenny's first child.
Jenny looked taken aback and quickly hid the knife in her back pocket before running towards my mum with a crying face as she pointed at me and broke down.
“Sis h-help m-me, y-your daughter k-killed Eva”
“What?!" All three of us chorused. By three of us I mean Rebecca, my mum and I
All their eyes moved to me and I noticed Rebecca's eyes drift behind me as her mouth hung low in shock.
“Oh my God, that's Eva's hair band” She exclaimed going closer to the lake.
“Where is she?” She turned to me “where's my little sister?!" she screamed and I just stared silently at her unable to form a coherent sentence.
“Did you push her off into the lake?” She asked already crying. What?
I'd never kill someone I love!
“Answer the question Luna!" My mum said.
I shook my head vigorously as I cried. "There's something called trust, and if you guys don't have it then what are we family for?”
My mum looked uncertain as her eyes drifted to Jenny and I'm sure she saw the way Jenny was glaring at me because her face registered shock before she looked back at me, wondering what was going on.
She didn't believe Jenny fully, she wasn't sure I killed Eva. I was grateful that at least there was a small chance that my mum would believe me but I ran into the house and up to the room that Eva and I shared as I locked the door behind me.
I threw myself on my bed and cried till my eyes felt so dry, they were so red and puffy. Even my face was red and my cheeks had dry tear streaks.
There was loud knocking on my door and I sat up on the bed. When I ran into my room earlier on, my entire family had been knocking on the door but I couldn't even bring myself to sit up on my bed, talk less of standing up to open the door, my energy was drained.
There was a loud noise like something fell and I turned my head sharply to the door, that was the problem, there was no door.
They brought down my door
I stared blankly at the trio that stood at the doorway glaring at me
“Don't you all think she needs therapy? She's too young to take out her anger by killing someone” Jenny said smirking at me.
“Come on mum, you're worrying about her too much. She killed Eva!” Rebecca exclaimed
My mum didn't say anything, she just kept staring at Jenny with calculating eyes, trying to figure out something
“I mean it's her fault dad left” Rebecca said staring at me and I turned sharply to her
“What?” My voice came out shakily and low
“He said he wasn't going to be related to someone that murdered his daughter” Jenny said smiling sickly
“You know for someone that just lost her daughter, you sure are smiling alot” Rebecca said. Thank God someone else noticed
“And the person you claimed to have killed her is locking herself up crying her eyes out. Does that mean anything to you?” My mum asked crossing her arms as she turned to Jenny
“Wait a second” Jenny said unbelievably “let me get this straight, are you all trying to insinuate that I killed Eva?” she questioned with disbelief
“Hmm” They both hummed and Jenny's mouth hung low in shock
“She's my fucking daughter for crying out loud!" She exclaimed but they kept staring at her unsurely.
“You know what, I don't care if none of you believe me, all I know is that she killed my Eva and I'll make sure to avenge her death” Jenny said confidently before angrily storming off.
“Don't think because she's a suspect you're off the hook, I'll find out who killed my sister and let them have a taste of their bitter medicine” Rebecca said to me before walking away.
I stared at my mum as she stared back at me, none of us saying anything.
“Mum you believe me right? You don't also think I killed my own best friend, do you?” I asked sobbing silently
My mum shook her head and sighed. "Right now, we can't just believe anything or anybody. I don't believe you neither do I believe Jenny but there is an eighty percent chance Jenny did it and all we have to do is suspect everyone. Right now, everyone's a suspect” She said before turning around and walking off.
“Hey!” I exclaimed “who's going to fix my broken door?!” I shouted and I couldn't help but smile a little when I heard my mom's laugh echo.
Since it's Grandad's lake house, I guess he'll have to fix the door himself.
