That's the only way

There was a cackling sound on the phone and then we heard Eva's voice but we couldn't hear what she was saying.

The voice suddenly started changing gradually, it was getting deeper then I heard granddad's laugh, followed by my mom's scream.

"Mom!" I shouted and the line went dead "mom" I held the phone tightly and shouted into it.

"Luna calm down" Rebecca said grabbing the phone from my hands and looking at me with worry in her eyes.

"But--my mom" I whispered staring at the unlit screen of the phone

" She'll be fine, I'm sure it wasn't real" She said

" But what if it was?" I asked " she's been missing for some time now and it was too real to be fake" I added and Rebecca was silent for a while.

"That's true" She sighed "I know someone we could meet if we want answers" she suggested

"Who?"

"We'll go there tomorrow" She said falling on the bed while I slumped to the ground thinking of my mom.

My mom was all I was worried about right now, I was so scared, I don't think I'll live if I find out anything had happened to her. I knew she didn't go to see grandad because they weren't compatible with each other and she would have told me if she wanted to go see him.

I would have called Michael, the guy she was currently seeing, but I didn't have any means of contacting him.

I couldn't sleep, I kept turning in bed, Bec was already sound asleep and the house was so dark, we rarely got electricity supply in this part of town, people rarely lived here too and I don't know why my mom decided to get us a house here.

I heard sounds, I was scared to close my eyes, scared of my nightmares too, I was worried about my mom, my head was clouded, I was so disturbed.

I decided to go downstairs and get a cup of water so I stood up and left my room. I was at the edge of the staircase when I heard something so I stopped, just in case I heard wrong.

Then I heard it again!

It came from the hallway, from the direction of Aunt Jenny's room. I paused and exhaled, wondering if I should check, after all it was my house.

I walked in the direction of Jenny's room and my eyes widened at the sight before me. Jenny was scratching her skin aggressively, I'd notice bleeding on one of her hands, her legs were twitching and she was talking and sometimes she growled. The sight was very disturbing, there were obvious bruises and marks on her arm, some were bleeding already.

Wasn't she feeling this? If she was, she didn't look bothered.

I didn't know what to do, whether to wake her up or leave her the fuck alone which she would prefer but I was too concerned and this was a sight I wouldn't easily forget.

This is a very wrong decision and I'm going to regret it.

My legs moved forward even though my thoughts were fighting strongly against it. I hadn't taken my second step when she suddenly stopped so I took steps back and hid by the door, just in case she was waking up.

She sat up and took a bottle of pills from her bedside drawer and swallowed some of the pills with water before falling back to sleep. That was not normal

I shrugged and walked back to the top of the stairs when I saw reflections, it was as if someone just turned on the TV and I heard voices

This is not my night!

I shook my head and went back to my room and laid down, I would have put on the light but I wouldn't be able to sleep and Rebecca doesn't sleep with lights on so I was able to see some parts of the room with the faint night light that was coming in through the window. I laid on my back, looking up at the ceiling till the tiredness weighed me and I slept off

Rebecca and I left home in my car after Jenny left. She drove us to an artifact shop and the bell rang as we walked in.

We were almost at the counter, when the man behind the counter saw us, his eyes widened and he groaned while Bec laughed

Hmm

"Hey Chris" She greeted, grinning

"What do you want?" He asked with a not-so-friendly scowl.

"That's no way to speak to a customer" Rebecca replied with a smirk "and calm down, I come in peace" she added smiling then his eyes drifted to me and Bec turned to me

"That's my cousin, Luna" She introduced and I gave him a small smile while he nodded

"So--?" He drawled out

"We came because of Lisa" Bec said "found anything yet?" she asked.

He moved from behind the counter to the door and turned the 'opened' sign to 'sorry, we're closed' and ushered us in through a door hidden behind a curtain behind the counter.

The place was like a library, it had shelves with books on them and there were two tables at the end of the room. There was another part of the room where there were only artifacts.

"I've told him about Lisa before" Bec whispered in my ears.

Chris gave us seats to sit on and sat down opposite us

"So tell us what you found" Bec said

"Lisa died as a teenager of a terminal illness, she was seventeen" Chris started "apparently, her parents did something to bring her back but she didn't come back the same" he added

"Do you know how she became my mom's best friend?" Bec asked

"She's a psycho, few weeks before her death she became crazy, she had to start seeing a psychological therapist everyday while she was receiving treatments" Chris said "she uses her best friends to kill everyone around them" he added

"You've heard of blood man right?" Chris asked then Bec and I glanced at each other.

"Yeah, he's my grandad" I answered

"Wow!" He exclaimed "he's Lisa's father" he added

"Woah, back the fuck up" Bec said "what did you say?" she asked

"Blood man is my grandad and Lisa's father so Lisa is my aunt and technically, her supposed best friend is her sister" I said, this was too much to take in

"How the fuck--?" Bec trailed off "I'm so confused right now"

"You both have to go see your grandfather" Chris suggested and a chill ran through my spine at the thought of seeing that man again

"He's a psychopathic serial killer, I'm going nowhere near him" Bec said crossing her arms and relaxing more in the chair

"That's the only way!" Chris said.
