Amber's POV

I looked out the window of the black jet I was in.

All I could see we're clouds. Normally, I would think that the fluffy things were very pretty. But, at the moment, all I could think was "Why am I here."

I turned my head to look around, which was painful, considering that jack-ass who tackled me basically broke my neck. I saw Matt on the other side of the small jet, still knocked out.

Blood dripped down the side of his face

Why were we here?

*Earlier*

"So?! What happened??" Bailey grabbed my arm basically jumping up and down with excitement.

"Well, we watched some movies, and I fell asleep.." the fire in her eyes faded quickly, and she slapped me on the arm.

"Ow! What the fuck Bay!"

"Would you mind telling me how you could NOT jump his bones after that romantic display?!"

I shrugged, "I just wasn't ready for that..."

Caylee jumped in. "And that's okay, right Bailey?" she glared at the short girl until Bailey rolled her eyes.

"Whatever.. You just better do it soon, before someone else does!" she ended the statement, almost singing it. She walked up the stairs to her and Zacky's room.

I sighed, and Caylee rubbed my back reassuringly. "If it's any consolation, I am very proud of you for getting even this far."

I hugged her. I was so thankful for my best friend.

At that moment, Jimmy walked in the house carrying two cases of beer, followed by Johnny.

"Hell yes! Girl on girl action!" Johnny yelled, and Jimmy joined in.

"I'll go get the hose!" Jimm yelled, while setting the beer on the counter.

"Fuck you guys." Caylee smiled and flipped them both off. "Where's Matt and the other two shit-heads?"

Jimmy laughed as Johnny replied, "I thought they were right behind us. I bet Matt went to start up the grill."

"Where is my Zee-Bear?" Bailey came back downstairs, just as Brian and Zacky walked in with bags of food.

They each were carrying six bags.

"Good lord, how many people can we expect at this barbeque?" Caylee walked over to the bags and began pulling buns and burgers out.

"The Berry's are coming over I believe." Zacky said, as he put his arm around Bailey.

She looked up at him with so much love and devotion, that I had to look away. I distracted myself by opening the beer and putting them into the fridge.

As I went to grave a third bottle, a hand beat me to it. I looked up int Brian's smirking face.

I blushed a little, and pulled the bottle away from him, teasing.

"Take my beer away, will you?" he smiled as he took it back.

I laughed. I loved how easy it was being around him. He was such an easy going guy. I was honestly glad that we hadn't done anything last night. I was so afraid to ruin what I had built with him. That was why I was okay not dating him. Flirting was more than enough right now.. But I knew that it would be more, eventually..

Brian's POV

Matt had gotten the grill up and running, and soon, was cooking the meal. The Berrys had come over with their girls, and now the party had started.

The night was going great. We still had about an hour before the sun was totally down, and from Zacky and Bailey's place, you could see the sunset perfectly.

I couldn't have been happier. Well, actually, I could. If Amber was mine. And only mine.

But, that couldn't happen. At least not right now. And I wish I knew why.

I knew that something was up with her, but I couldn't figure it out. Jimmy had told me that she has just had it rough, but I could feel that it was something more than that.

As I watched her with Jimmy and Caylee, I suddenly saw the mask. She was always acting happy. Acting like nothing was bothering her. She was a damn good actress, because, until tonight. I believed her. I mean, something was obviously.. odd.. But I never imagined that beautiful girl could ever be in pain. Until tonight.

Now, I could see that most of it was an act. She was being...followed. By a shadow of her past. Something happened to make her this way. Make her not as happy as she could be. My feelings for her, and my instincts told me to protect her. From what? I had no idea.

I just knew that I had to be there for her. I had to be her shield.

I got up from the lawn chair, and started walking toward her. Before I could get close, she walked away. Matt was taking the trash bags to the frnt of the house, to the garbage cans, and she went to help him. God, I loved her.

They disappeared around the house, and I turned back to the group. Johnny called me over to a game of beer pong. I couldn't pass that up. I would just talk to Amber tonight, when I took her home.

Matt's POV

I grabbed the trash bags and started carrying them to the garbage cans out front, when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned and saw Amber.

"Here, let me help." she picked up one of the bags.

"Nah, it's okay Am, I got it." she just smiled.

"I want to help. Let's go, so we can get back to the barbeque." she started walking to the front of the house.

I laughed and followed her.

I was maybe two steps behind her, when I heard the sound of glass breaking.

I dropped my bags, and ran towards the sound. "Amber are you okay?!"

She was nowhere in sight. I glanced around frantically. I saw a glimpse of her being pulled into a black van. I ran towards it.

I big guy stepped in front of me. I punched him in the gut. I heard the sound of bones cracking. Fuck!

He hit me in the face, right on the side, on my temple. I felt dizzy, and saw the ground rushing up to my face. Everything went black.
