The Appointment

Two days later, Aden was rushing me to get ready so we could make it to our baby's doctor appointment.

"Aden, relax already... I'm moving as fast as I can," I said to him.

Aden gave me a look, then playfully slapped my butt.

"Peach, I told you two days ago we had this appointment. Why aren't you ready?" he asked with a stern look.

"Sorry! I was tired and honestly thought I had more time," I told him.

I walked over to him, one hand touching my baby bump and the other on my hip, then kissed him.

"I love you, Aden," I said in between kisses.

He smiled and kissed me with so much passion and intensity.

"I love you too, Peach, but now we have to go," he said, smiling.

At the doctor's office, he practically dragged me to the door.

"Slow down, will you? I can't walk that fast—I'm so tired," I said to him.

"Alright," he said while picking me up.

"Aden, put me down! I can walk," I said.

He didn't listen; he just kept holding me until we reached the reception desk. I laughed at how ridiculous I must have looked.

"We're here to see Dr. Glenn," Aden said.

"Sign in, please," the receptionist said.

"You'll be seen shortly. You may have a seat," she added.

We sat in the nearest chairs and waited.

"Are you thirsty, Peach?" Aden asked.

"Yes," I told him.

"I'll get us some water," he said.

I really love when he does the little things—hopefully, he continues once the baby is born.

"Mrs. James," a nurse called.

"Just waiting on my husband," I told her with a sympathetic look.

She nodded, and at that moment, Aden returned with two water bottles. We followed the nurse to the back.

She took my height, weight, and blood pressure, then directed us to the room.

"I'll just need a urine sample," the nurse said.

"Okay," I said, taking the cup.

I went to the restroom and looked at myself in the mirror, then peed in the cup. Once done, I flushed the toilet and washed my hands, leaving the cup in its place.

"All done," I said lightly.

The nurse nodded and exited the room. A few minutes later, she returned.

"Congratulations, you're pregnant!" the nurse said.

Aden looked very pleased.

"How far along is she?" Aden asked.

"Let's check," the nurse said.

She had me lie back, lifted my shirt, and applied a blue gel to my belly before beginning the ultrasound.

"Ahhh ha, there's your baby," the nurse said.

Aden pointed at the screen. "What's that right there?"

"It looks like you're expecting twins. They're identical, as the fetuses are sharing the same sac," she said.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed, surprised.

"You're measuring at four months—almost five. In two weeks, you can set an appointment to find out the gender," the nurse said.
